  1. Hi there! Does anyone know if there is a way I can create a picture in picture look on DVDs? With that I mean I would like to have a small video window (speaker) that sits on top of a graphic (slides) and the two can play simulatneously(see attached). So when the video plays the graphic slides will change accordingly.

Does anyone know which DVD authoring tool allows this? Please advice. Thanks!

  2. if it's for a dvd menu then you need an advance authoring program than can do command sequences such as dvd maestro and scenarist.

if you mean as a main content in a dvd-video then you need something like premiere, vegas video, or after affects.

You will need video EDITING tool for this. Something that can support two timelines with overlay function (I hope that that is the right name). For example Adobe Premier.

Yeah, Premiere or AfterEffects can both do that. Hope you're patient, it'll take quite a while to export that when you're finished depending on how long the video is, unless you've got hardware encoders to take the edge off.

While I don't edit anything, Steve H. on the ez-board forum for ADS uses Ulead vs to do this

  6. Thanks for the reply everyone.

Timmmay - I'm using Vegas Video but what function do I use to control the synchronise graphic? I know in Vegas we use the insert command function but which particular one are your talking about?
    Thanks again!

  7. i don't think you can add any interactive controls by using any non linear editors, if that's what you're asking?? i don't use vegas but in premiere, afaik, you can't. in premiere you could create the pip effect or whatever effects you want, but to add interactivity for the whole video you need an authoring program. i'm not sure if i'm answering your question right?

  8. I'm pretty sure you could do this with two seperate videos and AVISYNTH, no real control over synching the two but this could be done roughly with careful time management.

You're not explaining yourself too well. It sounds to me like you want to create an interactive motion menu. E.G. you have a menu with video choices and a small window that plays a video preview of your menu selection, then when you select another video, the window will preview your new selection.

If this is what you're trying to do, then Yes you can do it. You'll need to create different motion menus for each video link. I've never played with Vegas, but I do it all the time in Premiere. Then you'll need a DVD Authoring s/w that lets you make Switched Menus. DVD-Lab lets you do that.

    Hope that helps.

  10. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Please see the attached picture sample I've created. I was hoping to create a menu page with several speaker selection then when the user picks one the screen (see attached) would appear. Once the video plays the graphics would change along with the video window. I know I can do all this if I create everything as 1 video clip but is there a way to do it such that the video is one clip while the graphic is the other?[/img]

  12. Hi Timmmay. Sorry dont know why I can seem to upload the image. Here's a url of a sample I was talking about... http://www.openasia.net/upload/247/nec/show1/index_wm_20030211_128k.htm

The speaker would be talking while th slide will change accordingly.

  13. Must be encoded that way - look at some video editing software. Vegas will work, just use any old authoring app.

  14. Sony's DVD Architect does this with little or no effort.

    Video editing software - absolutely.

Adobe Premiere if you have plenty of extra money to spend.
