sorry about the stupid question but does anyone know what the maxium amount of data is that can be stored on a 4.7 DVDR. Isn't it less than 4.7 for some reason?

4.3 GB = 4,700,000,000 bytes. How? Read this.

cause I put a 4.29 gig .img file on a dvd-r and the movie plays good all the way through but it gets cut off on like the last 30 seconds of the movie. right before the credits. it kinda sucks.

The maximum data you can write to a DVD is 4,700,000,000 bytes which is approximately 4.37Gb.
I figured this our after my DBD burning software refused to allow me to 'drag' a folder which showed that it was 4.7Gb which I thought was ok for a 4.7Gb DVD (as you would).
Before attempting to select files to burn it may be an idea to move them all into a new folder on your hard drive and then right click on the folder icon and select PROPERTIES. If the total bytes is less than 4,700,000,000 it will fit.
