  1. I wan't to convert vcd into avi (due to size/space problem)...I tried it using VirtualDub but the size is not reduced (hardly by 5-7%) I wan't atleast 35-40% reduction in size..any suggestions??? Plz help.

    First, I think you posted in the wrong forum. I believe you should have posted in the newbie/general questions one.

    Now to your question:

    The VCD is encoded at a bitrate that usually is 1150kbps for video. To decrease the size you need to encode to a lower bitrate than that.

    Generally, you can get a size almost 1/2 of the VCD using DivX or Xvid codecs. You need to specify the bitrate or quality level accordingly.

    VirtualDUB is a good tool to do this.

    If you have DivX installed, select it in compression within VirtualDUB and configure it for 750kbps or a quality index of 3.
