  1. hi!

i'd like to create a "news-channel"-like video presentation. to explain it more in detail: i'd like to place a speaker in the left front of my video, while on the right side pictures with subtitles are shown successively.

unfortunately i don't have an idea of how i can put this into practice. Is there any program recommended/necessary? currently I am using pinnacle 8.

    can anybody help me? thx

check your help index in pinnacle for terms like "composite" or "overlay".

you may need to use another program - Vegas Video will do this pretty easily, as will Adobe AfterEffects.

You can do some of this in Premiere. I've done it a few times. I was actually trying to learn more broadcast methods, such as the things you describe.

Some of it I'm sure I did the hard way, though.

okay, I'm not at my computer with Vegas, so my info will be somewhat sketchy, but you should be able to find more info in the manual.

let's say you have three videos you want to superimpose on the right, while your CNN guy is on the left.

    insert 4 video tracks.

take the footage of your newscaster, put it on track #4.

take your first piece of right-side footage, put it on track #1. Go to the Track Motion controls and adjust the size and placement of your right-side footage. If you shrink it down, you'll start seeing the image from track #4 underneath it. keep shrinking and positioning it until it's where you want it.

In the Track Motion controls, you should see some numbers referring to the dimensions and x,y position of the track #1 video. make a note of those.

put right-side videos #2 & #3 into video tracks #2 & #3. adjust the Track Motion controls with the values from track #1. your videos should jump right into the same position and size.

(make sure your track 1 video ends before track 2 begins, etc..)

for text, it's similar - look under Generated Media in the help file for tips on text.

hope this is enough to get you started. if you have problems, drop another post here and when I'm home tonight I'll try and be more specific.

also, check out The Creative Cow Forums - go to the Sony Vegas forum, and look for the Tutorials link - there's some good tutorials in there. The Wrigleyvideo tutorials are good theory as well, even though they focus on Premiere & AfterEffects - take a look in the Guides section here for a link.

  6. it's pretty much the same thing in premiere, i think. put all your video's in different tracks, adjust the sizes on the videos you want, then position the adjusted videos wherever you want them. also, you can use the titler to add captions on the bottom of the screen.

  7. oh! thanks (especially housepig!) for the detailed infos. I just got it going. actually I had been doing everything right already before but actually did not realise that "track 1" would always be the front-layer... anyway, now it should work the way i wanted it

  8. How about giving this Program a try....

Have not used it myself but it has garnered many kudos and awards. However, I never really saw it mentioned here much. Also not sure if it can render more than one video stream as you sem to require.
