    Hi

I am new to this ripping of original DVD's, i ripped LOTR 2 towers lastnight using decryptor and then went through DVD Shrink no problems. all the files came out right and i tested the rip on Powerdvd to see that it worked and i hadn't made an idiot of myself

Worked fine and was impressed with the quality.

Went to burn the VOB, IFO and BUP files, had to put them in the video_ts file like i was told to do by a friend. Burned the DVD using nero, no problems.

Watched the finished dvd on my pc again and it looked great, went to play it on my standalone upstairs and the film refused to play in the outset and then was really jerky with blothes on the screen.

Went downstairs to put it on my other DVD player and it wasn't having any of it.

Can anyone give me any ideas or clues. It works fine played back on pc but on standalones its rubbish.

    Is this a media issue?

I re burnt the files again at different speeds rangind from 4x first of all, then 2x and finally 1x. Is the media i am using poor.

Used Bulkpag first time then Datasafe think they are called

Any help will be much appreciated, im going through blank dvdr media like nobodys business

    kind regards

  2. It is probably your player. If it is playing fine on your pc then I reckon it is the media.

Try using some Ritek discs people have good results from them. It could be worth investing in some RW's to test with.

Try a forum search for your dvd players make and model to see if other people have posted probelms with it.

    Just a few ideas:

    1. Did ya use caps for yr DVD folders? (VIDEO_TS) most standalones are fussy about this. Also, did ya remember to include an empty AUDIO_TS folder in yr DVD - its neccessary for compatibility.

    2. When burning with Nero I would recommend choosing a UDF Physical Partition 1.02 rather than Neros own video DVD compilation (which uses a UDF 1.05 I think). Many older DVD standalones are happy to play UDF 1.02 but go ballistic with any other UDF version!!

    3. If all the above fails, then it might be bad media or yr DVD standalone may not be compatible with DVD+/-R. Ya can check player compatibility by following the link DVD Players on yr left!

    Good Luck!!

P.S.: A burned DVD playing fine on the PC is not guaranteed to work with a standalone. Some standalone players are very fussy (depending on manufacturer, etc etc) about playing DVD+/-Rs.

The Cheapo Media is the cause, in my opinion.

I've burnt dozens of DVD's using Nero, and I ALWAYS use the DVD-Video mode. Keep it simple.
