  1. Sounds to me like your MPEG-2 files are not quite technically compatable. Check out the bottom of this page for some general info:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvd.htm

And then check elsewhere on this site for more technical details.

Also, I know it's just a hobby, but you will really get MUCH better results if you use TMPGEnc to encode your files. The quality difference is really striking.

  2. Does anybody knows if this program has the same good results creating DVDs? Not just SVCDs?
Answer in English, Spanish or Portuguese!

Regarding the Ulead download server: I had some problems with it too, downloading manuals. Finally, for kicks, I tried a command line FTP (the one that comes with windows). It worked repeatedly, no problem. I have no idea why, maybe it was even just good timing...

I just got Movie Factory, and I'm looking forward to playing with it. I think I'm going to keep using vdub and tmpeg for making the mpeg, but I got frustrated with CD-Maker deluxe's lack of functionality for VCD and SVCDs, so hopefully Ulead doesn't let me down... tips anyone? I'll post results later.

  4. Why are the easy things always so difficult?

Trying to create a DVD using ULEAD DVD moviefactory. Imported digital video via Uleads MediaStudio Pro. My problem concerns menus. 2 different problems.

In 1 case I was able to select the desired chapter points. Edited the thumbnails, chose a menu etc. Tested the preview in the software everything seemed perfect. Burnt the DVD (DVD+R on an HP DVD200i) no difficulties in the process. When playing the DVD the timing of the chapter points is way off. It is progressively worse with each point. When you click on the menu item the video begins from several seconds to 15 or 20 seconds prior to where I had selected.

In a different attempt I am unable to locate scene frames for large sections of the video. Initially I could and as I continued to edit the project it went weird on me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hey there. The Sync problem has been noted in the past (you might try scanning some of the posts for details).

First of all, what platform are you on (WinXP, Mac?)? Second, have you run the patch from their site? Third, are you using a single, long clip?

From what I recall, the problem is worse if you use a single long clip. If possible, restrcture your clip into a few smaller clips. That should prevent the problem from "creeping" with time (small errors add up to create larger errors the longer you go).

I usually only use 30-45 minute clips with VCD and SVCD (don't have a DVD burner, yet), and find that works well.

Ulead DVD factory and workshop are serviceable little programs. I get the best results encoding with CCE or TMPGenc ahead of time, and feeding finished files to Ulead for authoring.

I don't even mind the cheesy menus most of the time. People who visit me and see my homemade DVDs think the menus look spiffy. Much less work than generating custom ones...

  7. To answer your questions:
    I am running Windows 2000
It is one long clip (roughly 32 minutes)
I have run the update from their site

If I break the clip up into smaller pieces will it allow the video to run straight though start to finish or will it return to the menu when each clip completes?

As for the sync problem I had not seen info regarding it but I will search again.

    Thanks

  8. Will it return to the menu when each clip is finished playing? Hmmmm. It might, but there is a way to prevent that. I'll check it out and let you know tonight.

"If I break the clip up into smaller pieces will it allow the video to run straight though start to finish or will it return to the menu when each clip completes?"

    Davem -

I've use Movie Factory for both short clips (music videos) and long clips (1/3 of a movie) in the XVCD format. (Sorry, no DVD experience) With the music videos the only chapters were at the beginning of each video (obviously), but with long single clips I inserted multiple chapters. When playing the disk on my Apex 500W, if you select a certain chapter it plays only that chapter and then returns to the menu. This applies to disks with multiple short clips or one long clip. So, in this case it doesn't act like a DVD movie. If there is a way to get it play from a selected chapter to the end of the disk, I haven't figured it out. If you select "Play" while the menu is displayed, the disk will play from beginning to end, including the intro video, if it has one. One thing I noticed, though. If you break up a long clip like a movie into smaller clips and then play the disk from beginning to end, there is a brief but noticeable pause from one clip to another. Not good for continuous things like movies, but just fine for music videos and family video events. Granted, my experience is limited to the Apex player in this regard. I've never tested a movie broken up into small clips, each with it's own chapter, on any other player. Also, I've only burned a few movies having one long continuous clip and multiple chapters. I haven't noticed a timing problem where the chapters begin playing, but I probably haven't paid close attention to that. I like Movie Factory a lot and feel it's worth every penny they charge for it. I use Media Studio to edit my DV AVI's, TMPGEnc to convert to mpeg, and Movie Factory to burn the disks. I do have my gripes, like the previously mentioned lack of flexibility of fonts. Also, I can't get MF to accept VBR mpegs, only CBR mpegs seem to work. Like others in this thread, I would like to have a warning pop-up box informing me of a non-compliant mpeg, explaining what is non-compliant about it, but giving me the option to go ahead with the burn.

I hope my ramblings help you out somehow.

  11. I would like to post this question to travisawhite. I was wondering why does the Movie Factory would NOT let me burn a Mpeg1 VCD with variable bit rate. I had to go back and use Nero. I would like to use the Movie Factory but no way it would let me. Is there or will there be a modification for this?

  14. Hello all,

I am a blind user who is looking at using Moviefactory to author and burn dvds. I am unable to use my mouse and was wondering if anyone new if this program would cause any problems for me. I do not want to create any menus but just have the movie play directly. Also, are you able to have.ac3 files with this program. Someone told me that you had to convert to .mp2 files and could not have Dolby Digital 5.1 audio in the final project. Any help would be great. Thanks

  15. blindy007: you might have a problem with the first menu. It doesn't allow you to use the keyboard to navigate between the first menus. These being "Capture Video" "Author menus" "Burn disc images" and "Make cd labels and covers".

You can however just run the .exe files in the ulead folder.

As for .ac3 I am not sure. Someone else is bound to know though.

  16. Hey thanks for the great tip but I looked in the folder and did not see anything that would work. I saw a file named first screen and it brought up the first screen. I saw a file named dvdmoviefactory but when I hit enter on it it was a Acrobat file. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks

  17. Hey,

Nevermind I got it! Thanks a bunch I think I can actually keep my burner now. If anyone knows about the .ac3 I would be very happy. I was told by someone who was not sure that only Ulead Workshop could do .ac3 files. Also, one other question dvd moviefactory needs a actual .mp2 file correct? I mean you can not load a .m2v and .ac3 file like in Spruceup or other programs. So I would use Tmpgenc to create my .mp2 file and burn with moviefactory. Thanks a bunch

  18. blindy007: I have only used it for 3 dvd-r's so far and I just created the mpeg2 file with muxed audio in tmpgenc.

I then just opened this file in DVD MovieFactory (author menus) and let it do some muxing (doesn't that that long) and the iso creation.

  19. I am a bit slow when it comes to making and figureing out this stuff. Let me tell you what I have done and if you could let me know what I am doing wrong and what I should change.
    1. Ripping the dvd with Smartripper and demuxing the audio and video file separate. I end up with one .m2v file and 1 ..ac3 file.
    2. Here Ineed to use rempg2 if my .m2v file is larger than 4 gigs.
    3. Following the Newbie guide I should use Spruceup now to author and burn the dvr but I can not use Spruceup and that is why I wanted to use Ulead.
What do I do now with my two files or am I doing something wrong. Thanks a bunch

  20. hmm, I am not to familiar with spruce up. But if I had the files you do I would try the following.

use rempeg2 to re-encode the video file to what ever you want. Then mux the audio and video together into a mpeg2 system file.

This then should be able to be imported into Ulead and then a DVD created into either video_ts or iso format.

I'm not totally sure about the .ac3 audio however. I need to try it out myself but I loose access to the dvd-r machine after tomorrow

  21. Well, I already had a .mp2 file that I tried loading into Ulead but it said it had aan audio stream that was not supported. So I guess that answers the question about .ac3. So I gues I will have to rencode the .ac3 files into a .mp2 file then combine the video and audio and then burn. Have you ever tried Ulead Workshop? That is suppose to handle .ac3 or DD5.1 files. I downloaded a trial version but do not know how to use it. Wondering if there is a .exe file like in movie factory and if the set up is the same. Well, thanks again for all your help.

I've enocoded some SVCD files from TMPGEnc (compliant to the SVCD NTSC spec). But when I try to open them in Ulead MovieFactory (Authoring) they don't seem to want to load. Nothing happens and the file doesn't show in the field?????

But, when I go to load the mpg file I get an message saying not a compliant mpg2 file. Is it possible to back up a dvd with Dvd to Svcd and burn with Moviefacotry? Here is my settings file for DVD to SVCD. Thanks a bunch.

This was happening to me for the last couple of months. You select a SVCD file, the program kinda blinks, and then nothing. No error message, no thumbnail, nothing. I just ignored the problem and only burned VCD's for a while. Finally, a couple of days ago I decided to uninstall/reinstall the program. After I did that it worked fine. I think Ulead programs are very sensitive to other video related programs installed on your PC. (Especially the ones you install after installing the Ulead programs.)

    TuxO,

I think you're onto something. It used to work for me fine. I have installed other similar programs since. Since the SVCD isn't working I tried to bring in a VCD file. It came in but won't let me add multiple menues (just the one for the file). It's acting flakey. I'll try to reinstall tonight. I have high hopes. Thanks much.

It came in but won't let me add multiple menues (just the one for the file). It's acting flakey. I'll try to reinstall tonight. I have high hopes. Thanks much.
    TuxO,

You were right. When I was unistalling the program I opted for the "Repair" option and that fixed all the wackey things the program was doing. Thanks again (very much).

BTW, How do you change the template settings so (to set a high bitrate so it doesn't re-encode)?????
