I know that I can use any other external MPEG encoder. My question is:
Can I open the DVDMF editor an MPEG captured by Dazzle2, select the portions that I want, do a batch process and use another encoder BUT the LSX version bundled ? This is different than adding a bunch of MPEGS and creating a DVD with DVDMF.
I just like much more DVDMF's editor than cutting chunks with TMPGEnc's MPEG tools and having to sit there one by one...

There is no way your can cut or splice and avoid using the internal Ligos encoder because it does not cut or splice on an I frame, unless you land on an I frame by accident. If your capture mpeg encoder is smart enough to put an I frame at the beginning of each scene change you may be able to do it. If you don't edit on the I frame and don't have DVDMF mpeg parameters exactly the same DVDMF will rerender your mpeg files at minimum at the splice.

I've made my own background for my SVCD and I have altered the template to push all objects to the back (I dont want to see any of the thumnails that DMF uses) - this is OK
Im trying to add 7 selections onto one SVCD page but now DMF is forcing 6 on one page and then 1 on the next page.
Is it possible to have all seven selection on just one page - I have PhotoImpact 7 and adding a seventh thumnail wont work!! Can anyone send me a seven thumnail template?
Any ideas?
My SVCD as follows.
1 660MB MPEG2 track with 7 videos
1 Tailor made background image
1 Looping music file for menu (but not essential)
Nero 5.5 lets you use your own SVCD menu background but it also adds in its own crude track titles on top of my background. Is there any program that will let me do this simple SVCD!! arghhhh
Thanks all -
i have the same problem as a lot of ppl that posted on this thread. UDMF dont let me do XSVCD.
NO, it dont!
if i try to add a mpg with bitrate higher then 2460 the proggie recode it with 2460 bitrate. theere is nothing i can do about that.
Aslo stepping forward and backwards among chapters dont work either.
suckie suckie
any one with ideas? I see guys again and agin claiming it does. well let me know how...
Well, I am the slime from your video.

Yes I have noticed this too, nothing that can be done about it. We will just have to wait until version 2 comes out.
Until then.. can anyone recommend a downloadable trial version that will allow me to do what I want to do at the above post?

Has anyone used DVDMF running under Win98 SE to author and burn a DVD-R with a Pioneer-A03? Is there a way to get around the win 98 fat 32 4G mpeg 2 file size limit other than cutting the file?

I have given up on Pinnacle Express. It would not work for me. Is there anyone who had problems with Pinnacle Express that is now using DMF succesfully? I don't want to get burned twice.
-
I have had problems with this product in regards to the actual burning. I have an HP 8290 R/RW drive. I burn at 2x (rather than 4x), with CD/RW disks (to test quality). 2 times out of about 10 test burns (with the Ulead driver), it hangs on the finalization step, turning my RW disk into a coaster. Go figure. This is the ONLY program that has ever done this to my RW disks. Anyone know how to format a bad RW disk?
Secondly... The encoder built with this product is very acceptable to the newbie, however, I have done enough encoding in the last few weeks to see dramatic differences in quality in MP-2. I am currently using TMPGEnc to encode. The "Best-slowest" settings produce much better VCD/XVCD encoding than DVDMF. I am capturing with ATI AIW Radeon 32 DDR, using 640x480 (wish the driver supported 480x480). I capture with MMC 7.1, Mpg2, 9.7mbps. Motion detect maximum, best of best settings. Outstanding quality, rivals uncompressed AVI. Then I use TMPGEnc to re-encode to MPEG-1 XVCD. Bitrate between 1.2 and 1.5 with supurb quality. Burn with Nero. I am bummed, because I like the menu's on DVDMF, but don't like the encoder. For my home movies, XVCD is adequate. It lacks the vertical resolution, (colors are not as vivid) but I am frankly tired from trying to get SVCD up to my expectations.

tjdmobile, to recover your cdr/w disk do a full erase (not quick erase) with Nero. I believe there is also a full erase in your HP Toolkit or utilities. You want an unformatted disk.
You only mention the Ulead driver. Have your tried the NTI driver or don't you have a choice?
If you lower you Video data rate to around 2550, or what ever the max rate your DVD player can handle, and burn a XSVCD. -
I'm burning a SVCD with Ulead DVD MovieFactory so I can create some menus. I created menus that when you preview them within MovieFactory, they got to their correct entrypoints. But once I burn them and try to play them on my Apex AD660 not all of the menu options goto there correct entry point of the movie, they always enter about 2 minutes past the entry point. All my other options work with my remote. I can zoom, display elapsed time, step, slow, and fwd, rev.
If anyone has a clue please let me know.
Thanks -
I've got the same problem with Movie Factory (same illegal command) at the same point. I've bought the full Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.5 and the DVD Movie Factory. I can do a great job editing and transcoding my movies to VCD, SVCD and DVD, but both apps give me the same illegal command. I can actually use the MPG files as authored by Nero and play them in my DVD player, but want to be able to use the Authoring capabilities of the s/w I purchased. Have you found an answer to the Fatal Errors?
If you can, please reply to super_dave@bigfoot.com
Thanks so much,

Travis,
I downloaded the trial app without a hitch -- it installed and ran perfectly the first time I tried it (maybe "Lamont Cranston" needs technical help from Burbank or Margo?). However, it won't let me convert an AVI file for VCD or SVCD. It runs fairly quickly as it encodes the file, but when it's complete the app returns a fatal error and dies. My efforts to open the MPEG file it created are unsuccessful. Every program I try to open it with returns this error: "This application has performed an illegal opperation and will be shut down."
I'm now trying to make an MPEG with VideoWave so I can test the Movie Fatory's menu authoring capabilities. At that time, I'll check to see if this sortware can be used to make video scrapbooks.

I've made a DVD on DVD-RW using Ulead DVD movie Factory (trial). When I played the DVD on my Pioneer DV525 DVD player it couldn't get the sound out (images and menu looked fine). I've made an identical DVD using DVDit LE ( used the same MPEG2 files that encodered using TMPGE Enc) and it had sound when played on 525. Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it a compatability issue? I've sent a note to Ulead tech support today.

Hi, can anyone help me. i know there are similar posts but none answered. i converted an avi to mpg format with TMPGEnc and that worked fine, but i try to use Uleads dvd editor to make a menu vcd with it, and it tells me that my mpeg is in the wrong format for a vcd. how do i fix this?
thanks. -
Hey all,
Just got my HP DVD100i. I can burn fine using the included MyDVD from Sonic, but their Scene support is almost non-existent. (Spacebar during capture!)
Got the MF trial loaded, and it now burns fine, after an IDE upgrade from my PC manufacturer.
However, when I create the DVD, there is no sound from my player also.
Any clues? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? -
Hi all,
Just to share some of your problems:
- Software crashing all the time (remember to save your project often!!)
- Skip/Forward -buttons not working correctly with my Pioneer DV-444 (always coming back to menu - annoying when you have 30 clips and want to see them all)
- It doesn't approve NTSCFilm (23.976fps)
- And finally: This software doesn't accept both PAL and NTSC on the same disc!!! VideoCD2.0 and SVCD should accept these as written in specs. (VCDEasy is accepting these on the same CD without any problem - waiting for menu creation there =) BIGGEST PROBLEM!
Haven't tried encoding ... only authoring. I use TMPGEnc to encode my moviefiles.
ANYWAY ... I like this software because it's so simple and clear to use. Hopefully they (Ulead) will correct these problems in future versions.

Hey all,
Just some rambling, maybe it will help someone more knowledgeable to give an answer to the sound problem.
Using VOBedit, I've compared MyDVD 3 burned disks to DMF burned disks. My thoughts are still trying to wrap around the plethora of info given by the program, but it appears that MyDVD outputs acm-3 ( is this right?) audio and DMF outputs MPEG, heck, level 1 or 2, audio. (Yes, I've been attempting to get my brain to wrap around this technology/terminology all day. I've recently resorted to an old college trick of mine... alcohol. Benefits to be seen remain TBD.)
Again, MyDVD burns fine, with audio, but gives almost no control of chapters for a premade production. It only gives spacebar control during a capture. Yuck.
DMF ( DVD Movie Factory, Ulead) has a LOT more control, and is DIRT CHEAP, but I can't get any sound off the burned dvd.
Using HP DVD100i, which from my limited understanding, shouldn't matter a heck of a lot, at least for my player. Other players mileage may vary.
So..., where was I? Oh, Could it be the different audio encoding between MyDVD (Sonic) and DMF(Ulead)?
ANY info would be GREAT before I strap myself in front of my PC and REALLY examine the difference between these two audio encodings.
Really. ANY help.
My player DOES have an option to choose audio, um, output?/format? PCM, DTS, or a third which escapes me 4 hours before 2002. <GRIN>
OK, wife is yelling that we have to go and get drunk, so I can get sober before driving home. I'll check for answers tomorrow, AFTER noon Eastern!
Happy New Year all!!
Bob

I have tried burning DVDs using DVDMF with my HP DVD100i. Works great except for a few little details!
1) doesn't accept NTSC DVD standard MPEG-2 streams that are less than 720x480 resolution.
2) audio works... only when it de-muxes and transcodes my MPEG2s to create the VOBs it screws up the audio sync!!! By the end of my 45 minute clip the audio was about 5 seconds off sync from the video!!!!! Talk about wanting to pull your hair out! I took the same MPEG-2 file transcoded and burned it with my-DVD and it stayed perfectly in sync.
3) delay in menu audio at startup
4) Love pop-up sliders for picking chapter frame image.. just wish they were non linear(finer control near orignal mark) for easier selection in large video files.
BTW anybody using Ulead movie studio 5? I tried putting together 2 MPEG2 clips with about 20 mp3 audio files for a soundtrack. It put the video together into one file.. put the audio together in a different file... then fatal'd when it tried to put the two together! Used TMPEG2 and put the two temp files(audio and video) together without a hitch!

I've noticed a similar problem. I'm using the demo version. Audio in my original MPG2 files is perfect. MF accepts the file fine. Preview is in perfect sync. But the FINAL VOBs are SLIGHTLY out-of-sync.
Any suggestions or ideas why this would be happening??
Thanks

Lamont, you mentioned the ability to create XSVCD, but the documentation does not mention this... I am very interested in trying because the resolution matches DV... Sounds like I can create my mpeg file in VideoStudio and use MovieMaker to create an XSVCD?
-
To see how ULead is used, check out my web pages at "www.rphunt.com/dvd". Note that I DON"T RECOMMEND using their MPEG encoding. Use LSX. ULead's causes very blurry results.
-
note that rphunt's info appears to be related to DVD format. I am looking for information on creating XSVCD...

You can use DVDMF, VideoStudio 5, LSX35, TMPGEnc to make your XSVCD mpeg 2 file then author and burn your XSVCD with DVDMF. To make your XSVCD mpeg 2 file with VideoStudio 5 select Make a movie, mpeg files, options, compression. First select NTSC(SVCD), then Mpeg 2. This will set the nominal values. Select DVD resolution and a video data rate your DVD player can handle (constant or variable). Look up the max SVCD video data rate under DVD players at the left of this screen. Create your mpeg2 and import it into DVDMF. When you add your mpeg2 file DVDMF will prompt you with the message Your mpeg file exceed the SVCDs specs do you want to create an XSVCD. Click yes and burn your XSVCD. You will also have the oppertunity to set the SVCD file names and directory compatibility. -
My thoughts on ulead...Would not buy their product. When I purchase something, I expect support for the product. I emailed ulead approx 3 weeks ago with pre sales questions concerning their movie factory...just had a few questions before i purchased it and guess what? I still have not heard a peep from them...must not want to sell their products or they have no confidence in them.
But that tells me a lot about a company and their support for after the purchase...if they cannot respond to a prospective customer then their support will be just as horrible.
So, even tho it is no longer supported I found a copy of Spruce up and bought it...Your loss Ulead...when you learn how to treat customers, become competent business people who care about customers and support, then maybe you will become more successful...t -
I still think Ulead DVD Movie Factory is a good, entry-level product, but I think I'm about to switch to Roxio Video Pack 5. I'll let you know how that goes.
-
I did some more experimenting on the audio sync issue. If I import an MPG2 (perfect sync) and ADD NUMEROUS CHAPTER STOPS, this is what causes sync issues. If I do NOT add chapter stops, the sync seems to be perfect (same as original MPG2). Any ideas why?
BTW, for $50 this is an amazing product IMO.

Hello,
I have made 2 mpeg2 files with studio 7 from pinacle, I have the studiodc10 plus capture card.
I made a dvd with Ulead DVD Movie Factory, on the pc it seems fine, the menu is working and I can watch the dvd with powerdvd.
When I play it in my dvdplayer it is not working, I have a Hiteker DVD player, when I press play nothing happens.
Does anybody knows what the problem could be? I am trying all day...lol
Thanks in advance!

MO:
Check out the listings for individual "DVD Players" on the menu to the right. Perhaps someone has made a note about your specific model. I would also try switching to a different media. As many of us here will tell you, sometimes the media is the culprit.
I also have the DC10 Plus card and Pinnacle Studio 7. What OS are you on? I have mine on a slower Win98 box and would love to move it to my faster Win2000 machine, but there are no native drivers. I'm just curious about what you're doing. -
Hi all,
I just downloaded the Ulead DVDMF trial. Many postings above indicate that you can use files encoded with specs for XVCD, and that the program will ask if you want to create an XVCD. The trial version tells me the filel are not compliant and refuses to accept anything but compliant VCD (or SVCD) files. Am I missing something? -
Downloaded the trial version. I can get all the way to the burn part, but the program doesn't recognize my pioneer A03. Their websight says it is compatable. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Little John
