  1. Hello,
I've installed and partitioned a second hard drive.
When I capture to this drive ( to a folder on it ), the playback after capture is very choppy and about half the expected file size.
I double checked by capturing to the first/original drive, and there were no problems with capturing using WMM to avi files.
I checked how the second hard drive compares setup-wise to the first one, and as far as I can tell, all is the same.
The second drive is the secondary("slave") on the primary IDE channel.
Is the problem because the second drive is partitioned?
Thanks in advance for any help......

Two drives on one cable may be causing the issue. If you can move the drive to the Master position on its own channel (Primary or secondary, one drive only).

I have problems burning Image files from a Slave drive. The burner indicates 4x or 8x but the buffer constantly runs down and reloads and a 4 gig image takes 30+ minutes vs 15. If I move the image to a Master drive they burn at the correct speed (4x or 8x).

  3. Is there any other data files on the 2nd drive's partition that you're capturing to? Is it the same results with both partitions of this second drive?

  4. hi,
thanks for all the advise, its much appreciated. i was directed to a thread in the Hardware forum that solved my particular problem. it turns out the secondary drive was showing as OFF in the BIOS, instead of AUTO. when switched to AUTO and reboot, the drive settings were changed from PIO to DMA 5 transfer mode..thanks again!!

  5. Windows XP will see a drive even if its disabled in the BIOS, but it won't use UDMA for it. Setting your BIOS to Auto was the fix.

    Good job!!!!

Maybe you also need to check your BIOS settings. lol
