    Hi there.

I've been reviewing the forums, and thus far following the guides for this particular type of conversion. Like so many on this site, I've been reviewing it (site/forums/guides) yet not posting for well over a year. I'd like to consider myself extremely good with MPEGs of any format, HOWEVER, I have never once tried a conversion at all using the Xvid/DivX format. This is my first, and I'm having a HUGE problem. (A few of them actually.) Please help, ANY input would be appreciated. Here are my explanations, and questions. What I'm trying to accomplish is creation of an XSVCD, 480x480, 48000kHz. Those are the brief stats. Below, I explain more what I'm trying to do. once again, please help.

First, I'm dealing with a capped TV show from an HDTV source. It wasn't captured by me, it was captured by a family member who then put it on a CD and sent it to me, because they had wanted me to see this particular episode. Before you all get on my case for not doing the work on my own, I realize this isn't the "standard", I know all of that, so please don't give me grief. I'm having genuine problems here, and really need help, not lectures.

The original Xvid clip is 350MB, resolution of 640x352. I plan on using Adobe Encore to extract the audio, which I will re-mux later. I ALSO KNOW THIS IS NOT THE BEST METHOD, but nothing else is working for me. Being that Ive tried everything else, this is what I'd like to try, and need help with.

I'm using TMPGEnc Plus (which I'm very familiar with) for the ES Video Only. However here are my problems.

    1) When I convert VIDEO ONLY, the program goes crazy. It tells me that the runtime is 128 minutes (Its really 48.5) and that the estimated filesize will be 2.8GB, just for video alone.

    2) Halfway through the encoding, at the same points, it will either give me an encoding error at 49%, or once it hits 49%, it will stop encoding picture, and finish encoding the entire movie with nothing but a black screen. Please help me correct the bad frames!!!

    3) Here are my settings for TMPGEnc. (Final outputted conversion, video only.)
    • 480x480
      23.976 fps (internally 29.97 fps)
      MVBR 1-Pass of 2520 kbps
      NTSC
      3:2 pulldown when playback

    NOW, here are my questions.

    1) What program would I use, or how would I CORRECT bad frames in an Xvid *.avi file?
    2) How can I get the MPEG converted filesize down to less than 800MB for the video only *.m2v file? Its encoding it at like, 2.8GB for video only, and screwing up the runtime.
    3) PLEASE help, this is frustrating as hell, like you wouldn't believe.

Any input would be appreciated, so I'm thanking you all now. Thank you VERY much.

    Later,
    W-K

Try opening the xvid with Virtualdub. If you get a variable bitrate audio error, there's your problem. If so, extract the audio to wav by selecting "Full Processing Mode" on the audio menu and then "Save WAV" on the File menu. Select the wav as your audio source in TMPGEn.

It the xvid doesn't have VBR audio, try installing the latest xvid codec.
