converting question

hey everyone, I've downloaded a few .avi and .wmv files and now I want to convert them to .mpeg, I've been looking around but I'm not sure what to get, I just need a program that can simply do that without too many excess steps (noob here ) I mainly want a program that can work with .wmv files but .avi would be great too. Can anyone link me up please? Thanks.

i've already been through that a couple times bugster, lots of great info, but I can't find a single part that specifically talks about converting from .wmv to .mpeg...

TMPGEnc works for both AVI and WMV.

yup, just tried tmpgenc and it worked very well, only problem is that it took a 10 MB wmv file and turned it into a 19.6 MB mpeg file, is this normal? and is there any way I can reduce the MB # in the new mpeg format without disrupting quality? Thanks for the help bugster and teegee.

Mpegs use higher bitrates than WMV/ASF(usually), so the file size will increase.
