  2. did you buy your pc out of the back of a truck? you should be able to hazard a good guess at what cards are installed just by looking at the rear slot openings. a video card /w tv-out, tv tuner card and a few freeware utilities is all you need....you came to the right place(see left)

U probably don't have a TV/Tuner Card in your PC. It is usually an optional item when you buy the PC in the store.

Look in the back of the computer see if there is any place you can plug in you Cable TV or video inputs from the VCR. If not, you probably don't have a TV/Tuner Card.

To put the Movies back to VCR, look for Cards that have a built-in Video out. Not all cards have this.

I found that ATI All-In-Wonder will be able to do what you asked for.

From most accounts the ATI AIW is junk
Go with the Matrox or an ASUS if you are hell bent on an 'all in card'

I have used and found the Pinnacle Studio DC10 to be a good buy if it is just a good analog card you need.

Download "Virtual Dub" (read capture HOW TO.)
Run the AUX SETUP and do a bench mark on your hard drive.
If less than 27 Mb/sec SUSTAINED at 640*480*24 (full screen / color)*29.97 fps then go for one of the 'realtime' MPEG2 encoder cards.

_ for VHS movies a TV tuner is not required
_ will the ATI AIW work with XP - most likely - goto ATI home page they will tell you
_how hard to install .. hmmmmm that is up to you... 1.UNPLUG 'puter, OPEN case, FIND spare PCI,AGP slot. , PLACE new card in slot (IF it is a video card it my pay to uninstall drivers for original and remove it . then shut down and got to step 1) REBOOT install drivers.

If you don't understand ANY of the above ...........do not attempt this at home kids
