I have an audigy 2 platinum card and was wondering if its possible to capture 5.1 sound from like tv shows or video from a minidv camera.
I have an optical input port on the audigy, so that may help.
Do I need some hardware like home theater system and output the audio to the input of the audigy card to get 5.1 sound?
Be nice to capture 5.1 audio and make a dvd with 5.1 audio, lol.
Don't know if this makes sense, but I don't know.

To capture 5.1 you need 5 separate sources of audio that go to 5 mikes or inputs.

The least you can do is emulate 5.1 sound as you can already do with most Dolby Digital receivers that have DTS:NEO6 or Dolby Pro Logic II, using any two channel source.
From what you're suggesting it sounds pretty useless to encode 6 seperate channels that aren't really discrete. It's a waste of space.
