Most professional dvd menus have a small icon that moves with the currently selected menu item. How can this be done in DVD Maestro?

There are 483 references to subpicture in the manual......I'm guessing this is done by color controls?

no -- you just create a subpicture on another layer
using DVD Menu Studio http://www.mediachance.com/dvdmenu/ is one of the easiest ways to see/do this ...

I am using DVD Menu Studio. I imported a jpg button and copied it to subpicture 1. Then I exported the .psd to Maestro. But after importing I end up with a blank subpicture...?

import the color palete and also adjust the sliders for color .. then make a button where subpic is and click on it to see it (after show subpicture is checked in options)

I imported the color palette, but why is this done? When you say make a button where subpic is, do you mean make a button on the subpicture in Maestro? How would I do this? I have read Chapters 7 and 8 in the manual but they mainly just discussed stuff I have already learned.

  8. You have to make an selection(in dvd maestro) where the button should be.After you selected(with your mouse) the area where the button should be you can actualy see it(view layer:both.

I guess I am not making myself clear. I know about dragging your mouse to create a "button" in maestro. What I am trying to do is use a menu button (say a feather) which moves when the user uses one of the arrow keys on the remote. The feather is used to select the menu item to be actuated. In DVD Menu Studio I created a menu with 4 choices. I clicked the Copy to Subpicture button for each menu button. Then exported a psd file to Maestro. But in Maestro the button is not visible in the subpicture, only a red rectangle. It seems maybe the only way to do this is to create 2 separate jpegs for use in Maestro, one with the menu picture and choices (background) and one with the buttons only (subpicture). Does this sound right?

see the groups of colored sliders in the menu page ? slide all of them to the left except the first top row on col. # 2 and # 3 (set those to about 5 or 6). all else should be off (inclding all of col. #1 ) ..

that the basic setup for 1 layer subpicture ..

in dvd menu studio you can create more layers and so forth in maestro ..

  11. If you use a picture with a background color it will not work, then you got to make your menu and a seperate subpicture(the subpictures color should be the same color as the background color from the feather.

I'm about ready to give up on this. I can import buttons into DVD Menu, save only the button layer as subpicture, and bring the buttons into Maestro. But can't come close to making the buttons look the same with the Maestro color mapping as their actual appearance. And what would you do with a button with more than one color? Or with color shading? I see no way to make them have their true appearance in Maestro...

that is why i said to import the color palete you used to make the buttons in the first place (it is a normal psd color palete file) , and the option is right there in maestro to do so ..

Importing the color palette makes no difference. I didn't make the button, I downloaded it. It has gradations of color which Maestro color mapping doesn't come close to matching.
