  1. Im converting an AVI to MPEG so i can author and then eventually write to a dvd..

Im using AVI2SVCD to make the conversion. the probem that Im having is when I compare the original avi file to the newly converted file which is now Mpeg it is stretched a little wider and narrower with black borders on the top and bottom. This seems to distort the picture a little.

Are there any settings I could change to retain the shape like the avi.

    Settings are as follows

    AVI to SVCD or VCD
    aspect ration is:4:3 no borders
    CVD 352x480/576
    Bicubic resize

    Any help please

  3. Just use TMPGEnc to encode it.

What is the resolution of your original AVI? Have you burned the mpeg to disc yet and watched it on your TV? It might stretch to the correct aspect ration once you play it on TV.

  5. I took a look at the original AVI in GSpot

    FPS 29.70
    512 x 384(1.33:1)(4:3)
    DivX low motion

    Does this help

  6. Barnabas, When you use TMPGEnc to encode it make the output excessively large.

With DVD2SVCD it keeps it smaller

  7. Just figure out how long the movie is, and set your bitrate to fill up the disk. It can be as big or small as you want.

That doesn't necessarily mean they won't play correctly on a DVD player.

Sounds like your video needs letterboxing. There is a way to do this with AVI2SVCD but unfortunately I'm not the person to ask. I normally use TMPGEnc for that conversion. If you were using that program I would advise that you change the arrange method(the advanced tab on the settings menu) to "Full Screen: keep aspect ratio". Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
