  1. I am trying to encode a 699MB AVI to SVCD with TMPGenc plus. When I get to the screan where you choose the CDR size, the file is 112.95% of the disk size and I can't make it smaller so it will fit on a 80 min CDR.Can someone help?

You can't adjust the bitrate in the bitrate setting window? If that's true then it certainly sounds odd as that's what that screen (4/5 in the wizard) is for.

Use the unlock template and change the video bitrate until it fits.

Or encode and spli the mpeg to two CD's.

The size of an mpeg file is determined by the bitrate and the playing time. The TmpGenc wizard will not let you reduce the bitrate below a certain level (forget what exactly) because the quality will suffer too much. Thats why the size is shown as 112%, due to the playing time and min bitrate.

  7. Actually, I have already split it into 2 files. I am trying to do the first half of a DIVX movie and was trying to avoid having to make it 3 disks. It is 2 files, both 699MBs. It is just over 2 hours playing time total for the whole movie. The unlock template worked, but I haven't burned it yet. I'll post results asap. Thanks all.

40-50 minutes per CDR for SVCD.

Anything less looks like crap. 700 MB AVI sources always look like crap.

  9. Ok. I burned it with Nero and it surprisingly turned out great. Not quite as good as the original Divx, but definitely better than VHS quality. Hope this helps others with the same issue. Thanks so much for everyone's help!
