okay
i have tried to change to DMA on my DVD-R
using the divice manager but i dont have an advanced tab
and the Intel application accelerator isnt compatible with my chipset
so i went into the BIOS and found the DVD-R drive and went to it
at the very bottom it says:
PIO [Auto]
DMA [Auto]
so i when to DMA and it only gave me 2 options
auto or disabled
so then i went to PIO it gave me these options:
Auto
Mode 0
Mode 1
Mode 2
Mode 3
Mode 4...
i dont know if it went any farther
i didnt really pay any attention
any way
i was wondering
what does this mean
is DMA enabled on my DVD-R drive
or do i have to change the PIO setting to something other than Auto
so that DMA is enabled
i am at a lose
i have no idea what to do
please help me
some body
please
i am begging

In your BIOS you should set UDMA and PIO to AUTO,for more info read my guide in my sig below.

The DMA setting in Windows is not on the DVD-R in device manager. It is setup through IDE/ATA-ATAPI CONTROLLERS PRIMARY IDE or SECONDARY IDE in DEVICE MANAGER.
As for BIOS -- SET DMA to AUTO. PIO is not direct memory access mode and 4 is the highest. PIO is inferior to DMA mode. You should set them both to AUTO.
Set the BIOS to DMA:AUTO for the controller(s) and then check Windows (via above method) to see if it auto-detected the correct mode. If not (and you are sure your drive supports DMA), delete the appropriate IDE controller and re-boot Windows to let it auto-detect and re-install the controller. That usually fixes the problem w/ Windows incorrectly detecting the mode for IDE controller.
