  1. Was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. Over the past few years I've backed up my CDs and have about 2000 mp3 files in my collection. Over time, I've moved them from HD to HD during computer upgrades, formats etc and I've got the feeling that a quite a few have been "cooked" (i.e. sound slightly warbled) during this process.

Because this has happened over a long period I can't conclusively prove that they've lost quality. Has my hearing suddenly become bionic or do MP3s actually lose quality during disk to disk transfers? I mean its just data being moved around right?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

    DF

That's what I'd say. Any errors would have come up during the transfer. Maybe you're MP3's weren't that great to start with and you're just noticing now, or maybe your speakers are crapping out.

  3. Or the fact that I got a decent pair of headphones - lol. Makes sense, I just thought maybe I was missing something. Thanks for the reply.
