Hey guys,
Just spent the last hour or so reading up on the forum, and learnt a lot of new things. I'm a relative newbie to all this, so be gentle.
I have a Sony TRV22 camcorder, and have just managed to film and convert it onto PC using Windows Movie Maker (highest quality setting) and got a good result.
However I have read my manual and I can capture from VHS, but when I set this up I get nothing!!!!!!!
I have a the 3 leads pluggd into my scart converter in the back of my VCR, and the cable goes into my camcorder. I have a firwire cable from my cam to my PC. I have taken the DV tape out of my camcorder, and set it to DV Out, but it just doesnt work!?!?!?
I have read similar threads, but not seen any answer to this!
Please help...

As you are in the UK, your camcorder may well be the 22e version. In which case it could have the analogue (and DV) in feature disabled. Check the manual. If it says it should be able to do it, you will probably find that it is turned off in the menu. Sonys with inputs enabled have a item in the menu to turn passthrough on (on mine it is A/V>DV OUT and can be set to on or off.
The camcorder also has to be in player mode. -
In addition to setting it to AV to DV OUT, I think you need to go into the ETC menu and select DISPLAY, and set it ot LCD (not V-OUT/LCD). I think that's all I had to do and my TRV-22 is been working great for analog capture.

Thanks for the response guys!
Yes it is a TRV22E.
I have set it to DV Out and LCD, but still cant get the video to display???!!!
GRRRR.
I can watch what i record on tv, but i want to put my vhs tapes onto my pc!
i might have to take it back since i was lead to believe this camcorder can do this -
Set Display to LCD the menu settings (this is the default).
Set the power switch to VCR
Press FN to display PAGE1
Press MENU
Select AV -> DV Out, then press EXEC
Select ON then press EXEC.
Start Analog Source, then start capture process on your computer.
You should be able to see the video on the LCD screen while it plays.
This should allow you to do Analog to DV Passthrough mode on the TRV22. Your video input source can be either composite (through that goofy cable that Sony provides) or via SVIDEO. I have a TRV33, but this exact process works on the 22 as well.
Hope this helps! -
Oh -- one other thing...
The TRV's don't have timebase correction or cleanup of the analog signal. If your tapes have macrovision crap on them, this unit won't allow you to transfer them to DV. -

Do I have to tune it into my TV or something? I can watch what I record on my camera but putting my TV onto the AV channel, but how do I get my VHS onto my camcorder screen or onto my PC with it????
Just to confirm with the leads - I have the 3 coloured leads plugged into the SCART adaptor and into the back of my VCR. The other end is in my camcorder. I also have a firewire cable connected to my PC and camcorder.
I load up the software that came with the camcorder and it just doesn't show what my VCR is playing! Just get a back screen with nothing happening!
I have tried with the camcorder tape removed, and it makes no difference at all.
ARGH! Can anyone else help me on this? Or should I take it back to Sony and say it's faulty since i've followed all instructions and just can't get it work bloody work -
Assuming you have the three coloured leads into the scart adapter correct (yellow - yellow, red - red, white - white) there isn't much else you can get wrong. You have set the camcorder up correctly, but it appears the video signal simply isn't getting through. One thing comes to mind. Are you using the scart adapter that came with the camcorder? If you are that may well be the problem.
The scart adapter that Sony supply with their camcorders is intended to connect the phono sockets to the video and audio IN pins in the scart plug (so you can use it to watch camcorder footage on a TV). As video and audio OUT appears on different pins, these aren't connected as it was never intended to be used this way round. You'll need to get a scart adapter with a switch so you can select whether you want to use it to put signals from phono to scart or from scart to phono. -
Did you try this yourself? I guarantee you my 22E results in perfect output when video with macrovision is inputted. I converted my Starwars Episode 4,5 and 6 VHS tapes to DVD perfectly and they definately had macrovision. Its only if you try and record macrovision content on to the miniDV tape that it refuses.

I will try my local electrical shop and look for this SCART adaptor and if it's cheap I will buy one and see if it works.
I will let you know how I get on.

Hi,
Just wanted to say many thanks for your help
I bought a new SCART adaptor (with In/Out switch) after Richard_G's recommendation, and the damn thing now works
Turns out that my VCR was the problem, but the new SCART adaptor (£9.99 btw) has sorted it all out! Everything else is setup the same as before, and it captures my VHS tapes excellently - as good as, if not better than my PVR250!
Big thanks for your help -
Sorry to dig this one up again, but rather than start a new thread.............
I live in the UK (PAL) and have a WinTV PVR250 and a Sony TRV22E camcorder which I can now capture VHS from.
I have a load of NTSC VHS tapes that I would like to capture, is it possibly with either my TV Card or Camcorder?
Hope you can be as helpful as before
Cheers!
