I just burned an asf file using Nero. It won't play on my Sony which plays virtually everything. Could someone recommend how I can transfer the clip so that I can burn it? It's a hour and 47 minute clip and I know that dvd+r can only have 120 minutes. I don't know if converting would change the play time. So, I'm asking for help on how to convert an asf file to another type of file that I can burn with Nero and play on my Sony dvd player.

    Convert to mpeg with TMPGEnc.

What's weird is that my dvd player plays from 44 minutes on. Also, I had some mpg's and my sony player wouldn't play them or they would constantly freeze. What would be recommended for those mpg's? Also, are you sure about the tmpeg? I'll try it but I'm not sure how the program works I mean I'm not sure how to change it.

Give TMPGEnc a shot. Start out with the project wizard. Choose a VCD template. I could be wrong, but I doubt your ASF files are of exceptional quality so there's no point in using a ridiculous bitrate and resolution. If for some reason TMPGEnc won't open your ASF, post back here. It can usually be remedied.

As for your mpegs that wouldn't play correctly on the Sony DVD player, the DVD probably wasn't authored correctly. Did you use an authoring program that produced VOB's out of your mpegs? Not many players will accept a disc that only has mpegs on it.

I am still waiting for the disc to finish burning for the converted asf clip. Those other mpg I spoke of are only between seven and twenty-three minutes long. Would Tmpeg work on those?

Slightly off topic but.....the above statement is simply not true. The amount of time on a disk depends solely on the bitrate that was used to encode the video. Bitrate and resolution go hand in hand and DVD has 3 basic resolution types, VCD, 1/2 DVD and full DVD. For VCD quality up to 7.5 hours can be put on a disk, !/2 DVD 5 hours and full DVD 2.5 hrs. The times are rough estimates only, your tolerance and encoding methods may vary.
