  1. I just upgraded my motherboard to an Asus A7n8x-x (nforce2 chipset) and now my Winfast TV2000XP deluxe card is giving me problems with audio and video.

The audio has bad crackling/fizzing type noises.
The video has white interference lines mainly around the top of the screen.

I have heard that this motherboard can produce noise generated I think from the chipsets, the noise is worse when you scroll the mouse (ie. mouse wheel). This is the case for me. The noise is faint when playing MP3's and videos etc but much much worse when using my Winfast TV2000XP.

The interference on the TV reception (video) make it unwatchable.

I tried new audio drivers, no help.
I tried briefly stopping the fans on my CPU, GFX card and case, it didnt make any difference.

I guess i can try and move the TV card to another slot, but I already have it as far away as I can (ie bottom slot) from anything else.

Note: This TV card worked fine on my old Gigabyte celeron system.

    Hope someone has an answer,

I had a similar problem that I either cured or it went away, I'm not entirely sure. A couple of things you could try. Remove the card and run a pencil eraser along the contact strip to clean any oxidation or tarnish off. Go into your BIOS and you should find a setting for CPU Spread Spectrum. Change the setting on this from what it is (enabled or disabled) to the other option.

  3. Goto the "hardware monitor" page of
    motherboard's BIOS SETUP.
And see the actual voltage of +5V, +3.3V and +12V.

The normal voltage of TV Tuner is:
    5V ±0.125V (4.875V~5.125V)
    peak-to-peak ripple voltage susceptibility:
    20 Hz to 100 kHz : 5mV
    >100 kHz to 500 kHz : 10MV

  4. If you installed the latest forceware drivers from Nvidia, I hope you did not install their software IDE drivers. I did that and it gave me fits with all kinds of apps. If you are not sure, load them again and when the installer asks if you want their software IDE drivers click no and it will allow the os drivers to take over.
    Good Luck.

  5. Thanks Guys,

They are all really good sugestions, I haven't heard of any of those before, so I will try them and let you know how I go.

I like the sound of the IDE driver change, I have heard other ppl with Nforce2 chipsets having noise problems related to IDE.

  6. Update:

    Still no fix.

I tried changing back to the MS IDE driver, it made no difference at all.
I don't have a CPU spread spectrum setting but I do have a FSB spread spectrum which I disable, it made no difference.

I am pretty sure the problem is coming from the IDE, because when my HD is being accessed (ie Disk Activity LED is lit) the noise is much worse.
For example when i launch an application that is HD intensive.

I guess it could also be my power supply, maybe it emits more EMI under load. I did check the voltage levels, they seem ok though.

    Keep those suggestions coming

You probably need to download the Realtek AC'97 Audio drivers, try installing them with the setup, if that dosent work you'll have to do it manually, follow the thread lower down and see if that is what your talking about.

A lot of NForce2 motherboards have this problem, me included, it fixed mine, it drove me nuts for weeks, games, films, music, everything would crackle, and you dont even need to be using the onboard sound for this to happen, it also happens with people who have seperate soundcards.

http://forum.msi.com.tw/thread.php?threadid=14649&sid= <-----follow this link, theres instructions on the first page how to install the drivers manually (i think), and its not just a fix for MSI mobos, its for all NForce2 chipsets that have this problem, IF this is your problem, anyway good luck.

  8. Thanks Northstar,

I have tried the RealTek Drivers and they made no difference whatsoever.
I also tried a different PCI slot, still bad interference on TV and audio.

I might try shielded IDE cables and if that doesn't work I am at the end of my tether.

I am now thinking that the noise is not related to the onboard audio at all, but from clock signals somewhere on the mobo.

If I remove the audio in connection from my TV2000 card that goes to the audio in on the mobo, the interference is still visible on screen.

When i move the mouse around (wireless BTW) or have HD activity the interference is worse! Grrrrr this problem is so annoying, I did this upgrade so I could capture at full resolution, I had lower res but stable images on my old celeron system.

  9. Here is a still I captured showing the interference lines.
They are always worse at the top 1/4 of the screen.

  11. OK I fixed the problem!!
I fixed it by downloading the new Nvidia audio drivers (4.31). It wasn't the drivers that fixed it, however it comes with a System Utility, with overclocking utilities. I had my Front side bus/memory bus speed set to 322Mhz, I lowered it back to 166Mhz, interference completly gone!
I guess this can be done in BIOS too, I found the memory speed setting in my Asus A7N8x-x BIOS to be misleading.
Anyway it fixed my problem. Hope its a clue to solving other ppls probs too.
