    Hello!

How good is the KVCD format that I have heard some people talk so good about?

Is it as good qualitywise as SVCD despite the fact that it has less scanlines/resolution and that up to 2hours can fit onto a singel CD?

Why is there no tutorials here regarding KVCD and info regarding DVD player compatability regarding this format?
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

KVCD is not very good. Just another flavor of VCD. Half scanlines can results in loss of interlace AND less resolution. Double punishment.

    Hello!

But why are som many people then so positive to it and som claim that the result will be as good as SVCD?

I am also skeptical but maybe there is some magic to it that makes it really good despite the specs!.

I have a huge 51" RPTV which due to its size requires high quality because at that size scanlines are easily visible if they are to few.

It's likely the same audience that thinks downloaded Kazaa DIVX movies are "DVD quality". They have low expectations or are somewhat blind.

  7. Yeah, Kwag has his followers. I can't judge one way or another since I've never used them. Now that I have a DVD writer, I don't mess with any less than 352x480. You'll just have to see for yourself.....

  10. Try it and see .. a 51' inch TV should show up any imperfections nicely. Please report back your findings... so others may know.

KVCD is not a format as such. It is actually a set of templates for TmpGenc that allow encoding of mpeg videos with smaller filesize than standard (S)VCD or DVD whilst supposedly maintaining quality. The maintaining quality claim is obviously very subjective, the other issue being standards compliance and compatibility.

    Joakim_A:

Be advised that most, if not all of the SVCD and VCD templates at KVCD.net actually produce XSVCD's or XVCD's respectively. The "X" means the do not strictly adhere to that specification. There is a chance they may not play in your stand-alone player.
