Okay, Here's a new one to me. I have a good computer based dvd authoring system, and then I bought a Samsung R4000 set top unit to record a good chunk of the 1000 or so tapes I have. A lot of them were transferred from rentals, so they are striped with Macrovision, and the set top won't read them. I can live with that, but what is getting to me is I have quite a few hard to get films that I recorded off of Cinemax about 10 years ago. They are behaving like they have Macrovision on them. How could this be? If I dump them into my computer, I have no problem, but I can't use the set top, which is quite frustrating. Any ideas why they would behave like that? Do they have a way of copyguarding through cable TV? Doesn't seem feasible.

Nice avatar. Big fan. The is "The Shadow" I assume.

It is is not really MV ... just an REAL error that looks like the artificial one that MV makes. And it angers the recorder. Mine is the same way. I have a TBC, so not a big deal.

No, it's from the new film Van Helsing. I figured you of all people would know. It's funny, It's only the ones that I taped off Cinemax! What a frustrating deal, as I am not going to get a TBC, and I am now going to have to dump them in my PC, which, is very time consuming. I was leaving the PC for my home made stuff, and things I wanted to make custom menus, or have more control over. With the cable stuff, I just wanted to dump a bunch of them to dvds for space and effeciency, putting them in the LP mode. Now it'll just take longer. I have an old Video Clarifier, but that isn't working worth a damn!!
