How do I tell if I successfully burned with bitsetting?

Hi,

I have an NEC-ND1100A that I flashed to an NEC-ND1300A. I have attempted burning DVD's as DVD-ROM's instead of DVD Video, but I am not sure that I was successful. Is there a way that I can tell when I insert my DVD+R into my computer's DVD-ROM drive. One of the discs that I burned says that the file format is UDF when I insert it. Does this tell me anything?

Use DVDinfo Pro and click on the Media/info tab.

The "Media type" will still show as DVD+RW but the "Book Type" should now show DVD-ROM.

1. You have to use 108v2 fw to be able to change the booktype.

2. You need a DVD-ROM or a burner that is able to show the altered booktype ( the current Nec1300 and the Pioneer106 cant)

I have the NEC1300a and 1.08v2 and DVDinfo pro will show the altered book type. I set it in DVDinfo by formatting the disk then use nero to burn the movie. Nero doesn't show the book type but after the burn I run DVDinfo and the book type is shown as DVD-ROM. The only reason I do this of course is because one of my standalone players only recognizes the DVD+RW if I change the book type to DVD-ROM.

KNOWN FIRMWARE BUGS

- All versions of the original NEC1300 firmware do not indicate
the correct book type of DVD+R medias. Regardless whether a
DVD+R has a changed book type or not the NEC returns the
book type DVD+R for all DVD+R medias.

Example: if you burn a DVD+R with book type DVD-ROM the NEC
will write the book type DVD-ROM on DVD but will return DVD+R to
NeroInfo or DVDInfo. That fact does not affect reading the DVD.

Solution: If you want to know which book type is on your
DVD+R then use a different DVD-Drive to read out book type
(for example a Tosh 1712).

Is it a bug or on purpose of NEC?
Maybe I will fix that bug later, or not.

Nero doesn't show the book type

Actually Nero will show the book type. What I meant to say is that Nero will not display the menu to set the book type. That is why I use DVDinfo to do that.


DVDinfo also shows the book type ad will also set it.


Another thing Herrie's site says is that the patch is only for firmware 1.06 and up but my original firmware was v1.05 and the patch worked fine.
