Cell Phones and Gas Stations???

Like at our work, if we recieve a bomb threat you can't use a mobile phone or UHF radio in case the interference from that triggers the bomb.

Nah, at a large retail place, people must dislike us though because whilst I've worked there their has been at least 6 bomb threats.

Even had the Australian Federal Police come in to give us a training session about it.

I don't believe cellphones transmit enough watts to ignite petrol fumes.Radio and TV stations transmit AM/FM signals and microwave in the 50,000-500,000 watt range while a cellphone is .5 watts.
I agree with the previous poster that wearing wool is a bigger threat,I wonder if a Tesla coil is out of the question?

comparing microwave oven to a cellphone is like comparing nuclear explosion to lighting a match, thats about how much they have in common!

Im off this thread. IMO it was stupid to even start discussion about it. Everyone may believe whatever urban myth they want, I dont care

Any one from the UK see the Sky 1 show Brainiacs. They tested this 'urban legend' out with several phones and a caravan full of petrol. Result - Nothing.

Same caravan, 1 man with nylon clothing and a long piece of wire - Kaboom

Bugbuster, cheers for that, I saw this thread yesterday and remebered seeing the experiment on Braniac, but could remember how they blew the caravan up.

For those that didn't see, the Braniac team soaked, and I mean soaked the inside of a caravan. They placed a dozen or so different mobiles and let them off. Result nothing. In the spirit of scientific experimetation, they ruled out diffent ringtones.

Next they ran a wire to the caravan and charged up a nylon stocking and the resulting charge blew the mother away.

So, mobiles are just fine, but chicks (or blokes even), had better watch out!
