I have a couple of questions I was hoping one of you experts could answer.
I have a Dazzle 150 to capture to MPEG2, and I’m very happy with it by the way. I am using the test utility DVXCELKSTest.exe to record, and have adjusted the hex code so I can record up to 8GB.

My questions are this. I am using Moviestar 5.0 to convert my PAL captures to NTSC, and I was wondering why the conversion always results in a much smaller files size than the original started out to be – how is this if the frames per second are higher in NTSC than they are in PAL? The quality is also worse. I changed the capture bit rate up as high as 6000kb, then converted it, and the resulting file size ended up just the same as it was when I captured the PAL movie at a lower bit rate.

Second, when I change the bit rate under Mode parameters in the capture program, what exactly am I changing here? I have adjusted this value upwards, and downwards from the default DVD setting of 4200kb as far as 1100kb, and have not noticed any difference in capture quality, though the file size is smaller.

Also, does anyone know how I can use a DVD program to create both NTSC and Pal DVD’s? I am using DVD Complete right now, and can only to NTSC DVD’s.

Plus, I’m an unemployed student so free software is good if not a requirement for all of the above!

Thanks so much in advance,
H.
