  1. I have been using Nero 5 and DVDShrink to backup my commercial DVDs.
I have only used TDK blanks. Strange thing is that only half the movies play on my Panasonic player. Sometimes the same disc will play fine...then not play next time. Oddly enough...all disc play on my cheap Cyberhome player. Any thoughts on this craziness? Should I switch blanks. Buy a Cyberhome for my kids room? Is this common? Thank you for your time.

TDK use a number of different disk manufacturers, some good, some not so good. Some players like recorded disks more than others. Check out your player in the compatibility chart on the left.

and stop buying TDK blanks and buy Ritek G04 instead.

    Strange indead.

I have the same problem, only on TDK -R 2x disks and only in 1 player. Doesn't happen with my RITEK G04's. Doesn't happen with TDK's in my Apex player.

So it's really my POS opterite player and TDK disks don't mix (past about 3 GB, where the CAV change point is for the burn profile....hint hint hint).
