  1. when i purchased the tdk velocd cd-rw drive, i used to always use it for cd ripping, and 2 years later, it will only burn at 8x max, and any higher will cause a coaster. and when i browse cd-roms using the cd-rw drive, it locks up sometimes. is this because i used it too much for reading purposes? even installing games, and saving pc games into .img format.

    now i just got the lite-on dvd-+rw LDW-451S

what if i use it as my default drive for playing dvds, and using it to rip dvds for transcoding?

    is this safe?

    thanks

    Hello.
I would never, ever, ever use my DVD-r/Ram drive for ripping.
I don't even use it for playing.
I buy a standard Lite-on DVD-Rom for reading (and the occasional rip) and replace it when it starts to fail.
What are they ££££ where you are?
Over here you can pick one up for £25 ($47; man, the dollar is low nowadays!!!!!!).

I heartily agree and do exactly the same why rip on a high end dvdr when a dvd rom will do the job just as good and save some wear and tear on your precious dvd-r
    If it's wet, drink it
