I have a PIII 866Mhz 128MB RAM Computerwith a new firewire card and cable. I would like to capture some Hi8 Tapes from my DV Cam through the firewire card. I have tried using Adobe Premiere with default settings, but for 40minutes I get a 10GB *.avi file
. Is there any way that I can output a smaller, but equally good quality file. My HD is only 30GB, and I would like to store several videos. Thank you.

That setting sounds about right. For DV video I can only reccomend you get a bigger hard drive. Im working with 120 GB's and sometimes it can be trying.

You are transferring a file in DV avi format. DV avi is 13Gb per hour. From a Firewire source this is usually the only format you can use although I believe some software will encode to mpeg on-the-fly. This will give you two problems. Your pc is probably not a high enough spec to be able to do this reliably and smaller files = lower quality. Buy a second (big) hard drive.Originally Posted by leafzfan50
