I was told by some very knowledgeable people on this board that the reason my DVD-ROM is ripping so much slower than my DVD-Writer does is because DVD-ROMS have a 2x block built in so that you can't rip on them any faster than 2x. Is there a DVD-ROM drive out there that can be bought for a LOW price that does NOT have this 2x block? If so, what's the name of the drive. I'd like to buy one immediately. Any help would be appreciated.

Normally it is the DVD Writer that has the 2X limitation ! I have never heard of this but I can guarantee you that LiteOn and Pioneer DVD ROM drives do not have this limitation.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I think the PIONEER DVD-ROMs are the best ones ever made.

  5. If you are in the UK Maplin's do a generic model for £29.99 that can rip for England.

  6. I use a Lite-on from SVP (about £25) that rips SLDL discs at an average of about 7x, and decent SSSL discs all the way up to 16x as it approaches the edge.

Sounds like a lightsabre at speed, but who cares at that rate !
