    Hello all

I recently upgraded from an Athlon 1800 XP/768 MB to an Athlon 3000 XP/1 GB and moved my old ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro 32 MB AGP (2x/4x) to the new machine. If I upgrade that card to an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro 128 MB AGP (4x/8x), what sort of improvements (if any) would I see in quality and/or speed of video captures?

And, no, I really don't do any gaming, so any advantages there wouldn't be really important to me.

    Thanks

  2. The biggest difference is that the AIW 128 is no longer supported. MMC 8.x has much better quality than older versions, and the AIW 9xxx all use the newer Rage Theater 200 chip.

If you don't do any gaming, the AIW9000 might be enough and a cheaper upgrade than the AIW9600, though the 9500+ have more pixel shader power, which could be used with future software.

I definitely would dump the AIW128 though and go for at least a Radeon-based AIW (The AIW 7500 or original Radeon AIW are the oldest that are still officially supported). I'm sure you can find one of these for les than 50 bucks on eBay.

The 128 PRO has a Theatre Rage capture chip. It's a great capture card, same chips as all but the newest (9700,9800, 9600 PRO,9000 PRO,VE) ATI AIW cards.

Though not officially supported, MMC 8.x runs great on those 128 PRO cards.

CompUSA has the 9000 for $170 and the 9700 for $200 this week. Between the two, sounds like no-brainer to me!

Thanks to all for your help.

    lordsmurf,
If you please, can you send some steps in a pm on how you got mmc 8.x to work with your Rage 128 card. I to have the Rage Fury 128 Pro card and am quite satisfied with it as well as MMC 7.6. THought I might try out 8.x but cannot seem to get to first base.

    Thanks,
    Ed

Lordsmurf. This would interest me also. Could you either post here or perhaps give the steps on your web site
