Had my curry last night, not half bad but after all the time I've spent without one I was expecting it to be the best meal Iever had!

Damn near cheaper to go buy a hamburger than to buy ground meat to make your own. Mad cow, doncha know.

Thanks for the replies. I don't buy meat cause I am still in high school and live with my parents . I want to change the way I eat, I need more protein in my diet and I read that lean red meat has a lot of protein.
Leanest red meats that I know of and taste good.
ostrich, buffalo, filet mignon, trimmed sirloin

    Slim,

Ask your mom to make you a good steak with a good bit of the fat left on. You might be surprised at the taste.

Or, when she serves a roast, don't say, yuck, I only want the potatos and dessert.

Beans are also high in protien, and fibre, as they ALL tell you you gotta have fibre, or you're gonna die.

    Stiltman,

Ostrich, emu, buffalo, or beefalo, or any other redmeat animal that eats grass, will be tough and lowfat. So you might just as well go to soybeans, save yourself the work of chewing a chunk of leather..

Although 45 years ago, soybeans were considered unfit for human consumption, and were cattle feed, and plastics raw material.

We had a bunch of people here who got roped into the ostrich-emu flim-flam.. Bought mated pairs of one or the other, as much as 15 grand a pair, you'll be a millionaire overnight.

One guy went out and used an axe to kill all the birds he'd blown his small fortune on to make a large fortune. No market for ostrich-emu.

Ted Turner, as a billionaire has a large herd of buffalo, manages to use his pull to sell them. Not mainstream. Never will be. (My opinion )

Sirloin, as I said above, is a fatless, hence, flavorless cut of mear. No fat, no flavor, simple.

You really fail on the filet mignon. That is the premier cut of beef, perfectly marbled with fat, if not, no one would pay the price for it. Excellent cut. Fork tender. An unused muscle on the cow, doesn't build up like the legs.

I just wish you guys would look with a new perspective at fats in your diet. The totally antis have had to take a second look, saying we can't believe it, we've been preaching against this for 50 years and find now that eating fat causes lower cholesterol, lower "bad" cholesterol, higher "good" cholesterol.

Go figure. Maybe the medicos don't know what they are talking about?

    Ah, well,

    Cheers,

    George

Gmatov are beans fattening, I don't want to gain a lot of weight, thats why I want to eat fish and meat for protein rather then beans and nuts.

    Slim,

The first ? is, are you fat now, or do you think you are fat?

IUf you are skinny, as I am, eating a lot of normal protien will not make you a bunch of muscles.

If you become a lifter, you will have to go to the protien supplements, and, do read the can or jar, or whatever.. You will find id is from cattle hides and hoofs, pig hides and hoofs, other such garbage. But, still, someone will buy it, for a horrendous price and eat it up.

Meat is the best bet. You can't do that, you're SOL.

    Cheers,

    George

Other stuff high in protein -

Tuna (but be careful with mercury levels)
    Peanut Butter
Lentils (Lentil soup and/or mixed with macaroni or pasta is filling)
    Brown Rice
    Spinach
    Peas
    Broccoli
    Veggie burger

    Rookie,

    That's great!

The guy is asking for advice and you try to stick him on a veggie diet.
Broccoli, no protien, lotsa iron, as it is dark green

Spinach, ditto, it IS grass, basically.

Peas, no, brown rice, they have done studies, stricyly starch, the orientals do not really know something we do not, they simply use rice the same way we use bread, as a filler upper.

Veggie burgers???? No one in his right mind would eat a veggie burger, and that is an extreme startement, as my own daughter loves them.

Beef, beef, beef. And an occasional pork chop or pork roast, from which you can cut the really good carbonized fat and hope to get it all before the g'kids get it, as well as turkry, chicken skin.

    Cheers,

    George

I am not fat. I am 5.11 and weight 154. But I can gain weight easily when I eat what I should not be. I been working out for about 4 months now and just think that it is time to change the way I eat. I think I need more protein in my diet. I have not taken any supplements yet but I am planning to start to drink protein shakes next Monday. I need 160 grams of protein in my diet daily. I want to loose some weight to have more defined muscles.

  13. More defined muscles? So you don't want to get a lot bigger, just more cut? Well you are on the right track then. First and most important thing is the right diet. After that, less weight and more reps. Don't go as heavy as you can, instead lighten it up a bit and shoot for a lot more reps. Towards the end of the work out, even less weight and do a burn out for each muscle group you just lifted.

And remember, if you really want to get in shape....make sure to get that cardio in. People often don't realize how much of a difference cardio can make.

But then again you probably already know all of this......just making sure.

Also its not a bad idea to do a little before and after pictures and measurements. That way, you can see if it is working for you or not.

    Good Luck to ya.

    Lad,

I'm 59 years old next week, 5' 10, weigh 150 pounds, can lift more than my weight, "can't pinch an inch", if you remember that. If you cant, take your shirt off, make your finger-thumb into a "claw" , an inch or two apart, jam 'em into your abdomen, and squeeze them together.

If you're under an inch, you are not fat. And if you are 155 # at your height, not fat, what the hell do you want to do, be bigger than the football hereo.

Hey, most of those musclebound kids, as I learned at my 5th reunion, turned into little tubs of lard. You start bulking up, you are going to do it for the rest of your life or you turn into a little piece of lard.

    Cheers,

    George

Hey, are you pretty tough, regardless of whether you look like a weightlifter? If you are, hang in bud, you are in better shape than all the lifters.

George, those are just some alternatives.

Vegans don't eat seafood, and I also suggested Tuna - I eat more seafood than anything.

Spinach, ditto, it IS grass, basically.
I'm not a vegetarian (far from it) but I happen to love the stuff (probably as much as you love the fat ) and for my own health reasons, I have to watch what I eat.

Veggie burgers???? No one in his right mind would eat a veggie burger, and that is an extreme startement, as my own daughter loves them.
dress 'em up and you won't even notice the difference.

With all the talk about antobiotics used in animal feed and the drugs used to kill them (since animal rights changed everything), it's not safe to eat meat anymore.
You don't know what's in there, and where that's gonna lead healthwise.

I still eat it, but I curved my intake per month.

Sorry, but I lost one too many friends to cancer.

    Rookie,

I love spinach as a salad, unparalelled for taste and rich in iron, not protien.

Cattle might die from drugs, but they are killed with a shot in the head, straight to the brain, called the "humane killer", formerly, smacked in the head with a poll axe, "Poll axe" meaning a tool with a blunt but thin point that would kill the animal quickly, by smashing into the brain.

Mebbe inhumane, but how do you know that spinach stalk isn't screaming at you when you pull it, or cut some of the leaves off?

And, if you have to doctor it up to make a veggie burger taste like the real thing, why the hell would yuu bother? Hell, you caneat cardboard with enough mustard.
    Cheers,

    George

Fifteen million daily McDonalds patrons can't be wrong.

If my steak dinner has less than 3000 calories, it's just plain wrong. Lean meat. Who needs it!
