  1. I have various family videos which I am editing to fit onto DVDs. What MPEG 2 sizes do I aim for considering the total VOB files are from it I think will be smaller in size.

Do I create total VOB sizes of more than 4.7Gb and then use, say, DVD Shrink to make it to fit on a DVD?

  2. 1) No real size difference in dvd compliant mpeg files and related vob's. Usually, a "big" size reduction is seen between captured avi files and related converted mpeg files.

    2) A burned DVD's effective capacity is 4.37 gig, not 4.7 gig. Aim for around 4.2 gig max to leave a bit of authoring overhead room and to avoid marginal quality disk playback (stutter, freeze, etc. towards end)

    3) Yes, DVDshrink can be used to reduce oversixed authored burn folder/files. But, reducing to 70% or under will begin to produce a noticeable deterioration in veiwing quality
