I'm backing up an instructional video from VHS to VCD and the audio has a terrible background hiss.
I've read in this forum that, with Cool Edit, one can assign a profile for the noise reduction filter using a selection of what would be silence were it not for the background noise.
My question is: can this be done using Goldwave (which I already have)?
If so, how?
Thanks!

Yes, under the Effect menu go to Filter, then Noise Reduction. When the Noise Reduction window pops up change the Presets slider to Hiss Removal. Hit ok and wait for the filter to be applied. Then save as wav and use something like FFMPEG to convert back to mp2.
