  1. I made a VCD using Nero. There are few different .mpg's on one VCD.

Some will play and some of the others won't play on my DVD/VCD player and in Windows Media Player.

I tried reconverting the .dat's of the files that won't play back into .mpg because I think the frame size was off on the ones not playing BUT the weird thing is that Nero doesn't allow wrong frame sizes to burnt for VCD...

Now the .dat I reconverted to .mpg I see a few seconds of the video but it's all blocky and green squares every where.

Is there a way to retrieve the unplayable .dat back into .mpg or is it a lost cause?

Try playing the actual VCD you burned on your computer with another player. I rarely use Windows Media Player. Mainly because the majority of playback issues I've had in the past had to do with its use. If the DAT's on your VCD still appear corrupted using other software it may very well be a lost cause to recover them. Out of curiosity, what did you use to do the DAT to MPG conversion?

Try VCDGEAR , it's good for DAT/BIN/MPEG conversion issues. It also fixes MPEG header issues.
