hi,
i'm having a few proglems with encoding 700mg avi files to mpeg, what i did was :-
used vdub mp3 freeze to get rid of bad frames....tmpgenc plus to encode....tmpgenc dvd author to author....and nero to burn the vob files.
ive done a few that are perfect but now is my problem :-
when i use tmpgenc plus the file i put in (around 700mg) says that the film is longer than the time of the film (say films is 1 hour 40,tmpgenc says its 3 hours 30)....plus the run time goes red...........i encoded anyways and the result was a film with no audio and 2 hours of black screen !!.........i opened up virtual dub and opened my files one by one and foun that the files i can encode perfectly is files WITHOUT the vbr message that comes up........all the vbr ones come out the same and say the same time...........i tried saving just the audio as a wav an used that in tmpeg as audio but it came out all mssed up.
is there anyways i can get rid of this vbr or can someone please explain what vbr is ??
many thanks for any reply![]()
My fingers really hurt now lol....

Hi scooby2b2,
VBR = Variable Bit Rate. It is a known problem that the TMPGEnc doesn't like VBR audio.
The good news is that I know what you want to do can be done (coz I've seen it in the forums). The bad news is I've not had to do it so don't know the exact steps, and I don't want to mislead you.
I'd suggest doing a search on "VirtualDub" (a freeware tool that's used to extract the audio and do something with it) and "VBR" to see what that brings up.
The answer's out there, coz I've seen it and read out of interest - so have a good look and don't give up.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help good luck...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Open the avi file in virtualdub, under audio select full processing mode and no compression, then save wav. This will save your audio stream as an uncompressed wav file, so it will be large, approx 10MB/min. Then use this wav file as the audio source in tmpgenc.

after loading your file into tmpgenc, click setting. check the box for source range. double click on source range. a new window will open where you can set an end to the movie. tmpgenc will keep on encoding on some avi's even after they are done, unless you set an end point, hence your black screen
