  1. I've just Purchased Some Region 1 DVD's (DVD-9's) that have a 0K VOB File on them: Neither OSEx nor DVD Backup can Deal with it.

I've Posted Screenshots of this at this Location:

    DVD Backup Trying.

OSEx Croaks when it meets a 0K VOB File.

Has anyone Else seen this Type of Thing Yet? I searched for 0K VOB in the Forum before I Posted this, so I think I've found the 1st Example of a New Copy Protection Scheme.

I'm letting Hades Gnaw upon one of these DVD's RIGHT NOW. Will Post it's Death Throes as a Screenshot Soon, Or report Sucess.

What's this "Soap Trick" I've seen Mentioned? Thank You for the Tips about PLAYING Each & Every Chapter/Title/Feature on a DVD for 5 Seconds Before Attemting to Back it Up. You Folks are Great, Thanks!!!

That procedure lets DVD Player unlock every chapter of every title on the DVD, so that DVDBackup can back it up. OSEx (depending on key recovery method) and Hades don't rely on DVD Player to retrieve keys, so it's unnecessary with them.
I have not encountered 0 K VOBs until now (and I've tried a LOT of DVDs), and I hope Hades works out for you. Also, I would try OSEx in DVD Image mode if you haven't already. What VTS # is that 0 K VOB? Is it at the end? What happens if you back up everything but that VOB? Does DVD Player still play the VIDEO_TS folder ok?

    What DVD is it?
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

  4. Excellent Program ! Hades Wins Hands Down: The Program Finished with the Terminal Showing a Slight Error but the DVD Player was able to Access EVERYTHING while Playing the Resulting VIDEO_TS Folder. Even Previously Inaccessable Menus Now work Flawlessly!

First: I Copied the JACKET_P Folder and the Zero Kilobyte VOB File to my Desktop.

Next: Threw it onto Hades - ZOOOM! That Program Be Murderously FAST! Finished With a Complaint in the Terminal Window 'tho. Finished Before I knew it!

Then: I Dragged the 0K VOB into the VIDEO_TS Folder & Copied that JACKET_P Folder Back Over.

Lastly: Opened the Resulting VIDEO_TS in DVD Player to Test it - It Performed Faultlessly!

I'll sic DVD2OneX on it Now, Toast 6.0.3 (To Make a Disk Image) Later - And I'll Test (I mount the Image: If the DVD Player Launches I know I've Got it Right), & Burn (& Post FINAL Test Results) Tomorrow!

Huzzah for Hades! Long may (He/She/It) Live!!

Anyone Know Why there's No AUDIO_TS Folder - And What in Heaven is That JACKET_P Folder For?

    Thanx! Sea Mac

  5. I Bought "The Loony Tunes Golden Collection". As soon as I make One Back up Copy of EACH of the 4 DVDs in this Collection I want to put the ORIGINALS in a Safe Deposit Box! It would SEEM that All 4 DVD's in this Set Have a Null VOB File {Size=0K} on them. ONLY Hades can DEAL with these EVIL DVDs and NOT CHOKE to Death Upon them Like on some Chicken Bone!!!

Oh, Man, This is Great! Excellent Work, Whomever You Are!!! Sea Mac[/b]

  6. Sitting Ducks - "Duck Cravings" has one of these, but Hades ripped it no worries...

  7. Yes: It's the Second of 2 Title Sets. EVERYTHING {Except 1 Little Feature} is in the 1st Title Set. The Offending VOB is VTS_02_0.VOB (@ 0 KiloBytes) While the Next One [The Last File] on the DVD is VTS_02_1.VOB (@ 6.5 Megs)

  10. All Right! Hades Was Able to PROPERLY Decript a DVD that Neither DVD Backup Nor OSEx was able to Give Me WORKING Backups of!!! Amazing! Just be Sure to Copy the 0K VOB Over to the Decripted Title Set After Hades Gets Done Decripting It.

I Didn't Understand The Post by DereX888 either: What did you want me to Forgive you For? Being a PC User? (Most Likely Explanation)

Most of the kids animation dvds now have them. Anime doesnt, but Looney Tunes, Siting Ducks, Rugrats, Wild Thorneberries, all have them. Odd.

I backed up very same movie not long ago and I haven't even notice any problems. But since I use "inferior" PC software/equipment, it was probably just too dumb to notice that tricky VOB, and it forgot to choke upon it, like your Macs did...

So: what I meant when I asked you for forgiveness was to "forgive my laughing at you".
After all we (PC users) dont have that many chances to laugh at you Mac users hence me saying "I couldn't resist".

I thought my Win2K logo and my comp's specs would give a hint... anyway hopefully its all clear now?

most are warnerbros, but the others are nickelodeon. My sister just rented the spongebob squarepants dvd set, and she was watching it on the comp, well, i decided to see if it had the nasty trick. It does.

    That's a good possibility

Actually I'm laughing back at you

Luckily we Mac users have many, many more chances to laugh at you PC users

If we had a smiliy of a guy blowing the tip of a gun I'd insert it here:

its no smiliy, but maybe it works

  21. Oh Gee, I Owe you an Apology DereX888 I was Totally Clueless! I wasn't aware that Windows was that Superior. Well, I just Figured this Old Mac wouldn't hold a candle to one of them Newfangled G5 PowerMacs (Oh, if I Could JUST afford $1,800!) with them there Fancy IBM Processors in 'em!

Kidding Aside: I've Noticed that Both DVDBackup and Hades Decrypt a DVD (Whole Disk) in Exactly the Same Length of time that it Takes Toast Ti 6.0.3 to Make a Backup of the DVD Using the "Save as Disk Image" Option. On MY G4 that Could Be From 20 to 60 Minutes: I presume then, that Either the DVD Read Speed of My SuperDrive, or the Slow 100Mhz Front Side Bus, is the Actual limiting factor in my System? That Being the Case I would Choose DVDBackup first, and Use Hades as my Backup for DVDs that Have the "Zero K VOB" Copy Breaking Scheme on them. :P

Actually - I like the "No Virus/Trojan/Worms" and the "No 'Blue Screen of Death'" Aspects of Using IBM/Motorola Processors/Platform(s) over the Tendency of Intel/AMD Processors/Platform(s) to be Plagued by these Problems! Why, if I Chose to Un-retire & return to the Workaday Mundane World, I Could Make a GOOD Living Providing Tech. Support for Windows Users - I'd STARVE Trying to Provide Tech. Support for Macintosh Users! Sea Mac

Boy, that sure got ugly . . . now that the thread has been resolved, how about a lock? I think it's warranted.
