  1. Newbie to all of this and have been copying old Super-8 movies with my digital camcorder (TRV33). I get a pulsating look to the movie when it is played back. I understand it has something to do with the shutter speed from the movie projector not being in sync with the TRV33. As far as I can tell, the TRV33 does not have selectable shutter speed. Is there some software that can get rid of this pulsating? Thanks!

    Hi there,
I, too, had some 8mm films to transfer. It does have to do with the frames per second and shutter speed.
Video in the US in 30fps(29.97, actually) (25 in UK) and 8mm film is 16 fps, I believe. Just recording the image with a video camera will always get that flickering. It has to do with the projector shutter having a number of blades and getting it/the speed to be a common denominator
    of 16 and 30.

The telecine devices used by most transfer services account for this-not sure on the exact way they do.. I got mine done, and if you're wanting the best quality possible, I recommend you do that too if you can.

I read an article quite a few years ago that laid out a way to do it by adjusting the speed of the projector motor, etc., but it was quite involved and inherent was finding a way to adjust the speed.

That said, if you can't afford to have it done, any copy of your films is better than no copy. If you can't get them transferred immediately, I'd still make a copy in case of damage or they start to deteriorate.
