I recently finished a step-by-step tutorial explaining how the Multi-Trim feature works:

So far, in my experience, the trial version is junk. I can't tell if it's improved or not, because frankly it has so much disabled that it is actually worse than MF2. You admitted that you didn't even try the trial, so you really have no idea how chopped-up it is.
I don't really care about MPEG2 audio. I know how to get it if I want it in that format. I also don't really care that AC3 is a licensed format. Ulead should pick up the bill for AC3 for the 30-day trial period if they really want people to see what it can do. As it stands, they claim it is a fully functional trial, and say nothing about the fact that AC3 is not only disabled, but doesn't even appear to be a part of the program (I don't see any AC3 settings grayed out). Good grief, watermarking the video during the trial would be better than this - at least all of the features would be demonstrated.
I really just don't think you get where I'm coming from. I'm not exactly strapped for cash, but I don't throw money at every new piece of software that comes out without some assurance that it actually works. As I've said before, this version doesn't even appear to be able to correctly determine a .vro file size. (BTW, changing the audio to MPEG2 only reduces the file size by less than 1GB, leaving the project size at 9+ GB).
BTW, if you wonder why everyone thinks you work for Ulead, just look at your quote above. You even turn your criticism into a commercial for Ulead (i.e. "by downloading the FREE trial version here:") -
Why not contact Ulead's Customer Service and share your views directly with Ulead?
I just visited their Web site and I obtained this CUSTOMER SERVICE telephone number:

The encoder in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 only outputs stereo AC-3.

Please, you guys that have been using it : Does MF3 show a frame counter when capturing ?
Thanks,

I am not likely to download 180 MB just to check that... :P

Allright you guys, tell me another software company, another product that gives so many things for a new user (and not only) for FREE or at least as a trial download!
Allright I admit it,I had also spend a night to figure out why it became difficult to pass a movie from my stand-alone dvd-r in THE DEMO of the MovieFactory 3 , but I was very happy with the results even without the AC-3. My only problem was a little gap between the titles... 8)
Hey you guys ! IT IS A TRIAL, and for a trial it sounds normal to have some limitations! Have you forgetting other products with other limitations ?
As for Jerry Jones I have visit his links in the past and he was very helpfull when I needed his help. Personally I DO NOT CARE even if he owns Ulead ! We are not children ! (not all of as at least). And as the song says, with a little help of my friends, we can decide if a software is good or not.
Have a nice day....

If the trial is limited by time, what's the point of limiting it's features?

Well Nobodydies,
Seeing as how nobody has said a word about this in nearly a month, it looks like you're the only one who cares anymore. You want another software company that gives you full trial versions? Okay, MOST other software companies now allow a download of the full version with it expiring in 30 days or less. That is what users have come to expect, and quite frankly, I'm not too impressed with MF2 (which I own), so why should I drop another $70 to upgrade to MF3 when the main "new" feature is not even demonstrated in the trial?
You might want to start looking at post dates before jumping in and telling people to grow up when everyone has gone silent on the issue. You might get labeled "Mr. Delayed Response Guy" -
Rob, I admit it, you´ve got a point there.
On the other hand you didn´t have an answer didn´t you?
Whats on your opinion the next better software in this kind of applications with a 98%working trial ???
:P
Friendly regards -
Roll Tide,
if you look again, that was my first post in this forum.
If I was in this forum one month before then I would have posted my lines one month before, anyway there are many software houses, I know that, but not even one program is better than MF2 cause y´know what? Their enconding sucks!
And something else! We have something in common except the bad language, ....the same software!
I owned like you the MF2 and I was unhappy like everybody when I saw that MF3 came without an AC-3 support but thats life babe!....Thats life!!
At least Mf3 has this new Join function and some move menus to play with until we all together grow up, don´t you think??

Nobodydies,
First off, I am not a BABE 8) . Second, what bad language are you speaking of? I do not use profanity, and a review of my original post shows that. If you're referring to MF, that means Movie Factory, the subject of this thread, not what your dirty mind thinks it is.
I stand on my opinion you're late to the party on this thread, new member or not. Why not just start a new thread?
If you think everything besides MF2 is bad at encoding, you need to seriously get on board. Try TmpgEnc and you'll change your tune.
-
Dear Roll Tide
Like the song says don´t let me be missunderstood, I honesty do not mean anything dirty at all for God´s name.....
I just don´t like the way you speak for Jones cause the guy REAL helps people.
Any way I have already give a try with TMPEnc, but it is not as easy as MF2.
No hard feelings?

Specialist is okay, don't get me wrong. But he puts on blinders when it comes to Ulead. He poo poos the use of TmpgEnc or any other external encoder because of this blind devotion to Ulead. If you would actually read the thread again, you'll see he smugly insulted me for wanting AC3 capability for FREE. THAT'S when I went off on him.
Ulead software has a lot of problems, especially with audio sync. Work with it long enough and you'll see. Specialist seems to always defend it no matter what and blame external apps for the problems. His refusal to acknowledge the validity of other apps is why people get upset with him so often. He plays like a commercial for Ulead. Quite honestly, his one-dimensional advice would be better suited for the Ulead website, not DVDRHELP.COM, where all of the tools are discussed.
Can we please stop beating this dead horse??? It's a stale topic already. -
Dear Roll Tide,
I am really a new guy in all this stuff and I am really having problems with all of the tools and software and-and-and.
What I am looking for is for a software that is going to help me reconstructing my DVD RW´s after removing the TV commercials...
I think that is a very common issue, because every guy that owns one stand-alone DVD-RW at home, don´t like in the middle of its recordings stupid commercials, and because all I have tried until today (Cutt-of commercials and reconstructing the movie in a DVD) where pointless (take a look here under the header PAUSES BETWEEN TITLES: http://news.ulead.com:8080/~Webulities/read?66840,73 and you will understand)
I am not here to claim that Ulead has the cure for all pains but it sure helps me alot until now (Or at least a lot better than other software).
Friendly
Nobody......

1. If you're cutting commercials, you'll never notice it because the pause occurs on black screen with no audio.
2. I am not familiar with the Denver recorder brand, but my Panasonic DMR-E80H does not have this problem like previous generations, so you could consider a different brand recorder.
You sound like you're from the camp who tried PC DVD conversions, had sync/other problems, then went to a standalone. Not a bad idea. I do some of both, mostly using the PC to capture videocamera footage and then edit in DV AVI format. I use the standalone for television recordings. Again, if you're taking standalone footage in MPEG2 format to the PC, you're increasing your chances of sync problems. Might be time to get a hard drive recorder if yours doesn't have it already. -

Rob, thanks
I am right now going to try the trial of yours, I hope it works, I have try so many why not 1 more ??
Thanks again... -
Hope you all don't mind a noobie jumping in here, I have been following the thread here as I also was confused about the AC3 feature.
I was using a non-demo of version 3 and could not figure out for the longest time why while in "Preview" mode I had no audio. When I first loaded the files, I received the "AC3" warning message but still figured the audio would be converted for the Previw mode.
Anyway, I finally figured out that I had the version 3 "Suite", which came with my A07, and that it does not include AC3, only the "Creator" version includes it, which I have now downloaded.
My question is this... I had a program made from my Panasonic Recorder that I wanted to add chapter marks to. The program is 90 minutes but was recorded in the "Variable" mode so it filled the entire disc. I added 20 chapters to the program in Creator and saved it as an ISO file. The problem is, the file is larger than 5GB so will not fit on a disc. Evidentally just adding the chapters (without thumbnails) added nearly half a gig of info! As well it took about 3 hours to "render" the file.
Is there any workaround for compressing the file, perhaps in a different program, or is there a way to compress it or render it differently in the Creator program?
I have been looking for weeks for a program that would allow me to add menus and chapters to discs recorded on the Panasonic machine. Creator was the only program I found that would accept the files and add menus. Many other programs will not even accept Panasonic made VOB files, I get "error opening file" messages. The ones that did open them did not have menu capability. I have been experimenting with the Nero 6 suite but what a nightmare of a mess that is, there are so many DVD program variants it is beyond confusing. -
Welcome loke1,
You don't mention if you are using DVD-RAM or DVD-R to go from the Panny. Either way, you don't need any special software:
DVD-RAM: Copy the vrvideo.vro file to your hard drive. Change the extension to .mpg, then author using whatever program you like.
DVD-R: Rip the finalized DVD-R using DVD Decrypter or similar ripper software. You'll get either an .mpg file or elementary streams that you can use in any authoring application you like.
There isn't really any need for special software to recognize the Panny's .vob files. Hope this helps you. -
Rolltide, thanks for your quick reply. I am using DVD-R discs...
So, as far as the disc I am currently experimenting with, the 90-minute program recorded in the Variable mode and filling the disc, I assume I will have to to somehow compress it down a few hundred MB to allow room for menus/chapters? I had no idea just simply adding chapter marks, without icons, would add hundreds of MB of space, is this the way it is?
The Ulead MF3 seems to be a decent program, but one quirk I found that is real irritating. I "combined" all of my files together as I was marking all of my chapters. I made 20 chapters in all. Near the end of the chapter marking I accidentally hit the button to "unmerge" them. When I went to combine them back into a single file, I had 40 chapters!!! It added a chapter to every one I already had so I had to spend a bunch of time deleting all of the chapters the program added!
When adding/editing chapters the program assigns one chapter already for each segment of video. This chapter you cannot delete, that is until you add a new chapter, merge your files, and then go back and find the one that was initially assigned. Arghh!! Do program writers ever try out their own programs?!! -
I just encountered the same problem last night with Movie Factory 2. It choked on AC3 audio from an MPEG I had just written with MPEG Video Wizard. Maybe it's time to upgrade to Creator if it really supports AC3
Hey specialist - can you get me a discount?
