I have almost 2 TB of video files want to store. Since a 200GB HD is about $100 each, 10 200GB HDs should do the trick. But my PC only have 1 free slot left. So I want to buy something like a external HD enclosure for that purpose, but HD enclosure only allow you to put in 1 HD. Is there anything (enclosure, case...) out there look like a PC minitower but not actually a PC case, which allow you to put in 10 or more HDs and can be connected to your PC by Firewire or USB2?

    RAID. 'Nuff said!
    Hello.

  3. what about using a PCI IDE card.
Each PCI card handle 4 ide devices.

just an idea, it would be cheaper then buy external HD enclosers.

    Thanks,

What is RAID? I don't need anything expensive, or file server. Just a firewire or USB2 device to put in 10 HDs. I prefer it looks like a minitower. Of course it should come with fan(s) &well ventilated.

    Where can I get one?

  5. You could of course use a removable hard drive bay and swop hard drives as and when needed.

  6. RAID - Redundant Array of Independent Disks

You can get many drives look like one drive (eg 10 200GB drives will look like a 2TB drive) w/ RAID.

I don't know if a HD "tower" exists...

You could as stated above with the PCI card but it will get pretty messy with 10 drives. Instead, you can get 300GB drives (maxtor has some) and have less clutter.

By 'archive' you want to store them, so they will not be accessed frequently?

    mujahid7ia, thanks for the suggestion.

RAID looks pretty intimidating. How to build one? I will consider it if there is no other way.

    Got a DVD Writer ... ??? and a few 100 discs
It appears that the CPU was operating so fast that it began to execute instructions before they arrived. This execution of future instructions created a small tear in space-time itself through which part of the cpu passed into a parallel universe

I guess they do have drive 'towers'.
