  2. either wait until the dual layer dvd burners become available OR read at least one of the guides on this site that walk you through how to do it.

You could change all your titles to a smaller font. That would use less disk space.

    DVD to DVDR
Everything about DVD ripping, copying, decoding, encoding, reauthoring and burning from DVD-Video to DVD±R/W. But no DVD to VCD,SVCD,CVD, XVCD,DivX here please.

The only way to have the best quality using DVD Shrink is the keep the main movie ONLY and skip the extras. You can use DVDXCopy as well.

Re-encode with a lower bitrate with TMPGEnc to reduce the filesize. There will still be a reduction in quality as the bitrate is lowered but not as much as transcoding with DVD shrink.

Basically if you are reducing the bitrate you are imparing the quality, there is no way round that. You just have to decide whether the level of impairment is acceptable to you. If it is not then you will have to split it and put it on 2 discs.

Yes, there is. Pick VOBs that are smaller than 4.7 gigs.

    Seriously.

Don't forget, most commercial dvd's are two layer. That means that they have twice the capacity of the disc you're trying to copy them to. You either have to start with a smaller source, delete extra features, or split the disc in two. Pick whichever solution fits your needs.

  15. What size do you wind up with if you do movie only, ie no menus or extras, and strip off any audio streams and subtitles you won't use ? You might just scrape in under the barrier without fiddling with the video at all.

Ofcourse you will loose quality because if you reduce the file size(video) the resolution will also reduce. Try downloading a still picture or save a still scanned image/picture in two different file sizes. Then try zooming into each one of them you will know the answer. You can minimize the loss by getting rid of the extras. But in some cases you loose the menu of the main movie also which I don't like.
If you don't like DVD-shrink try TMPGEnc as 'Craig' suggested.

Yup - problem is that you end up with 2 files instead of 1
