  1. Again I try to post my questions on this board, and I hope it fits under the right section.

I'm new to this with DVD burning. Bought the Pioneer DVR-106D and have upgraded firmware to 1.07 (regionfree). Now I want to capture DVD Video in +VR format and burn to DVD+RW disc using Nero v6.3.0.2 and Nero Vision Express2 v2.1.0.4 as a DVD +VR disc. Also I would like to edit DVD+RW discs recorded in +VR on my PC.

My problem is that I get no option in Nero VisionExpress 2 like 'Record Direct to DVD+VR' as it is told in the NeroExpress manual. The option 'Import DVD-VR' (minus !!!) I see but on choosing that option I get error message '..the disc in the recorder is not a valid DVD-VR disc'. This is logic as I've inserted a DVD+RW disc partially recorded on with my stand alone Philips DVDR77 recorder which records in +VR format, but also on inserting a empty DVD+RW disc !

I use WinXP Pro SP1, Gainward Graphics card GForce4 with VIVO and have connected video in signal to composite in.
I have no problem using option 'Capture Video' under 'Make DVD-video. The only difference is that I just can't get the DVD+VR option to run in Nero VisionExpress2.

Nero recognices my DVR-106D correctly and also my DVD+RW disc, I use Traxdata DVD+RW (general, Data 4,7GB/120minsVideo label).

Could it be that my Pioneer 106D doesn't support DVD Video in the +VR format ? Can anybody give me some advice ? Anybody tried the Pioneer DVR 106D with Nero Vision Express2 and using the +VR format ?

    Thanks in advance for help.

  4. I have the same problem - I have a Pioneer DVR106 and Nero 6 shows no DVD+VR menus. Neo support answered my question on this saying this burner does not support +VR so Nero does not show the menus. Neither Pioneer or Nero documentation gives any clues here. Nero does say the Pioneer supports DVD-VR but Nero doesn't now, but will in the future. It is annoying that Nero makes a big deal about +VR capabilities on their retail box, yet their InfoTool doesn't report anything about drive +/-VR capabilities.

  6. Nero's latest response is that +VR support for the 106A was removed at the request of Pioneer! I find that a little hard to believe, but it confirms Nero did make a deliberate decision to disable this capability on this drive.

I did try the suggestion of playing with the trial version of Ulead Movie Factory 3. Other than capturing avi from a DV camcorder well, it hung and crashed all over the place. Could be lousy software or some configuration I don't understand. Trying to make DVD or DVD+VR were equally unsuccesful. I have no other problems with Pinnacle, Sonic, Nero, BackUpMyPC, and other software that writes to my burner other than not finding one that can write +VR.

  8. I just tried Sonic MyDVD which has something called OpenDVD. Can anyone compare this to +VR? Characteristics seem about the same: I burn a DVD, open and edit the project from the DVD without any original sources, then rewrite or burn a new disc. This is on my Pioneer DVR106. So I finally have some method of burning that can later be edited - after no luck with Nero, Pinnacle, or Ulead. I don't know if there is a way to author elsewhere (I like Pinnacle Studio) and burn as OpenDVD with MyDVD.
