  1. What's that 12kb file that Virtual Dub creates when capturing multi-segment? Do I just ignore the file and join remaining segments in TMPGE? Have been capturing compressed with Huffyuv then have to decompress (kills about 2hrs when capturing typical 2hr movie) Results pretty good so far.

  2. I think the 16KB-file is that VirtualDub can check if it has opened all splitted segments.
Delete the file and try to open the first file with VirtualDub, you'll get a Message.

    "...with Huffyuv then have to..."
??? Do you decompress the compressed captured files before you encode them? Don't you use the frameserver of VirtualDub?

  3. Never used frameserver in Virtual Dub...After I load segmented files I try to click on frameserver and nothing happens, therefore I don't really know what that's all about. Any advice would be appreciated. Could this be a problem cause I'm using Windows ME??

that file is simply virtualdub getting a headstart on the file before spilling into it... mainly just file-header and footer info so it doesnt have to do that when it switches files or goes into the next 'capture segment'... don't delete it until you want to delete all the files... if you do delete it beforehand virtualdub will still work it will just return an error because it was expecting to find it and didnt.. its no biggie.

  5. you need to install the avifile frameclient(run auxsetup.exe) before the frameserver will work or in dire circumstances: aviproxy mode

  6. So you can use the Frameserver:
    - In the VirtualDub inst-dir start AuxSetup.exe and click install handler.
    - Go into VirtualDub cut your video, and start the frameserver over File->Start frameserver.
    - klick OK in the first appearing window.
    - Now you should see the normal Save-file-window from Windos which want to create a vdr-file. But you can't use the vdr-extension, because the MPEG-Encoder doesn't know how to work with it. So you must take the extension .avi, take a filename like output.avi or anything you want and click on save.....
    - Now a window appears called "Frameserver mode - VirtualDub" and on your drive you can find the 44KB file with your wished name.
    - Now go into your MPEG-Encoder-Software, give it the 44KB-File and start encoding.
-After finnishing encoding uninstall the frameserver with AuxSetup.exe and the option Uninstall handler (I don't know why, but everybody sais it must be)

I have only tryed this method with LSX-MPEG (www.ligos.com), and it woks fine!
Maybe you must restart your system after installing the Frameserver...

    Wish nice videos!
