  1. Dear everyone,

I was recently told that my username could be perceived as sexual in nature and was asked if there was another username I could change it to. I was asked in a polite manner (Not by the person who had the issue with it, but by the moderator). This happen on another forum, and so far I have had no more requests to have my username changed...here's the story, and let me know your opinion.

I replied to the moderator that I did not want to change my username because, although it may be PERCEIVED as sexual in nature, it was not so explicite that I should have to change it. My reasons for this username are also not known to anyone who doesn't ask, and I feel that if someone does have a problem with it, should just ignor my posts. At first glance I can understand why someone might see it as sexual, but I assure those that are reading this now, the way I came to have this username is quite innocent and has nothing to do with anything "sexual". However, I also feel that this is something that I do not have to explain, because this is my business and not that of those wasting their time getting offended by something like this. I have been using this username for years now and not once have I ever had a problem.

BUT I would like to know the opinion of those who do use this forum. Am I in the wrong? Should I have to change my username? Does this mean than anyone who is offended by something that COULD be PERCEIVED as sexual can ask for that person to change their username? There is a long list of metaphors that could be on that list. What about violence?? Should someone with the username Killer be asked to change their username?? Just let me know...I am curious...and don't be afraid to speak your mind. I would be more keen on changing my username if someone came out and gave me an honest good reason why I should.

  2. Personally I have no problems with it, though I can see why some sensitive people might be a little offended by it. Perhaps the chance of offending someone due to the possible sexual connotations of your username would be reduced if you changed your avatar to something different?

IMHO and FWIT it is no worse than some others that are much more explicit. Again what ever you use for a name and post via emoticons is a reflection on you an not me, so its I have no problem with your name.

hmmm....I hardly look at people's names anyway. I mostly remember avatars...which is bad because people like me change them all the time.

As you asked for opinions, you can have mine

I think your username is childish, but it doesn't offend me, I'm 32.

(...considering your picture) I don't believe it's not of sexual intent, but that's just my opinion.

This site has far too many inconsistencies for someone to demand you to change your username.
However, If they (the moderator) asked, you said no and that was the end of it then thats fair enough.

For instance, I wonder if the user with the phrase (location): inside your mom, mostly has had the same request as you.
    I doubt it.
Despite my opinion on your username I'd like to genuinely commend you on having the balls to ask such a relevent question.

The forum for which I was asked to change my username, I did not put an avatar. It was simply my username that came up. As for the reason beavereater...I live in Japan, and I am a teacher. I come from Canada, where the beaver is a noble and highly recognized animal. Natives of Canada eat beaver in some ceromonial rituals. This is a story my students have read, and they nicknamed me the beavereater, without knowing that it could be view as sexually. It stuck...the avatar, I only use on this forum, with the hopes of a faster response...nothing more.

Personally, I do not find the name offensive but I agree with galactica - changing the avatar would ease the situation.

If a person is old enough to know the slang definition of beaver then they should be old enough to see the humor in the name.

I too am Canadian and beaver is actually quite yummy...

I don't see a problem with a user name unless it's pretty damn explicit...

I mean, "bear f**ker" would be out of bounds, but "beaver eater" (even though, yes, the first thing that came to mind is the sexual connotation) doesn't bug me.

("bear f**ker"... <snicker>... sorry, I was watching "Super Troupers" last night ... man, that movie is funny...)

I just feel sorry he lacked the imagination to come up with anything more clever. Like three quarters of thememebrs here, he didn't even take time to capitalize a proper noun.

in what "ceromonial rituals" do you eat a beaver ?

i'll go check it out -- smoke and eat just about everything else you can think of for various rituals -- just never heard of beaver ...

note: i've eaten some beaver meat (and its awefull).. it's a lot more fun to just watch them work while moose hunting in my opinion.

Beavereater - top name mate, keep it if you can, you could try kipperlicker instead.

I just tried setting my profile in MSN Messenger (Not my choice, I was experimenting for a mate) and I couldn't resist entering for hobbies "shagging" I was stunned when the response was "unacceptable word". Talk about limiting free speech, it's man's right to swear like a trooper!

Nice avatar too, what are you doing next friday?

  27. Might I make a recommendation as to be Politically Correct and minimize offense to "Namby Pamby" and Prude internet surfers.

Just change your username to: "someone who consumes large semi-aquatic rodents with webbed hind feet and a broad flat tail, which construct complex dams and underwater lodges".

That ought to clear up any mis-conceptions !!

    Just athought !!
