    Ok, I've converted an avi to DVD(mpeg2). Now what is a good program/app to use to burn this baby to DVDr? I guess I'm asking what is user friendly yet well respected in terms of burning software?

    You need to author it to DVD-Video standard before burning it (unless you have one of the few DVD player that will play raw mpeg video from DVDr).
    Many authoring apps will burn also.

    Well respected ones include:

    TmpGenc DVD Author
    DVD-Lab
    Ulead Movie Factory
    Ulead DVD workshop
    ...
