  1. Hello,
I've been doing video conversions for quite some time now and I'm stuck on this problem.
I have some Divx51 files that I want to convert using VirtDub but it won't recognize their format, I can play the darn things so I know the decoder is installed and working, but can't seem to get VDub to recognize the format.
I'm converting stuff for my daughters VideoNow, I've got the entire process down to a science with her own opener screen and everything.

    Please help.

Hehehehehehe cough cough bittorrent cough cough

You don't have the correct codec installed. VDUB needs the codec installed to decode it. Just because you can watch it in a player (excuse me 'playa' ) doesn't mean you can convert it.

You probably need DivX 5.1.1 (don't get 5.1.0, it's a buggy thing). Alternately try changing the 4cc header to divx/divx .

  5. Yello,
I've got 5.1.1 installed and vorbis too, along with tons of other codecs. I can play the thing in any player, but nothing that does conversion.
I'm far from being an expert at video conversion, but I can hold my own, been doing stuff like this since '96, so I know what a codec is and such, but some are only directshow I think and Vdub doesn't use those, I was just wondering which one I would need other than the Divx 5.1.1
    See...

What can I do to get this thing converted back to regular AVI? or so VDub can read it?

    Thanx,
    Zucky

Before you do any more install/uninstalls, run your movie through G-spot. It should tell you exactly what you need.
