i found a website that offers labels to download for free, but I dont have any ink in my printer, so im gonna get some and then play with it tomorrow. But my question is.... is there a program or some way to easily print these things? I download a jpg of the disc, but how do I print it out and get it centered up nicely on the labels?

  2. I use the memorex labeling system. Has an applicator to ensure that the labels are centered. Dont use cheap labels.
The Memorex system comes with CD LabelMaker software.
Make sure you allow enough time for the labels to completely dry.
No, you cannt apply the label by hand without an applicator.

I don't use the disc labels (fear of imbalance or not playing) but I do create covers for DVD's that fit a regular CD case. I find it saves a huge amount of space for backups.

You can write custom reports (and covers) using the DVD Profiler program which categorizes and tracks DVDs. It includes free cover artwork, stars, times, release dates, and a ton of other stuff. You can find it at www.intervocative.com. A great program for those with a lot of DVD's.

I have created over 300 labels for CD's/DVDs total and never had an imbalance problem. Where did you hear that from or did you just think of that?

    Some people don't have problems

As noted by STILTMAN I have read a number of posts from people that have had problems. Some were no doubt player-based, some probably type and quality of labels but regardless, I just don't want to take the chance. Since I normally play one DVD at a time then put it back in the case, there really isn't any need for me to label the actual DVD.

I did read one article (not a forum post) regarding certain label glues deteriorating over time. I will try an find the article and post it. I remember it being more related to storage method (case, temperature, etc.) but still it's worth considering.

Actually the quality of label art is much better at DVDCOVERART.com. Unfortunately they charge 10 cents a label (or used to anyway). I used to use them but haven't in several months.

  11. Play it safe. Use Hub / Core labels for your DVDr's.

True, many say they don't have a problem, but many do.

While the hub label does not offer a lot of room for logo's and text, it does reduce the risk of wobble and less mess if you need to take the label off. Plus they are dirt cheap! 520 for $10.00

  12. If anyone knows wher we can get those hub labels here in the UK (without buying "full face" label kits and throwing away 90% of the whole kit), please let us know...

I use Fellows NEATO labels. They are a sticker. So you really cant have an unbalanced disc because of a label. You are not putting on your own glue/adhesive for the label to stay.

Save your cash and get a quality CD/DVD printer. I use Ritek ink jet printable disc with an Epson Stylus Photo 900. If used properly you can not tell the difference between the copy and most originals. Shop around you can always find the 900 for under $200.00 and some times you can get a rebate. I ended up spending under $150.00 for mine. Once you get the setting correct it prints very close to the originals quality IMO.

Then I print the insert art on photo quality glossy paper I get from Costco with NERO cover designer software. This is one of the few things I think NERO does well. Cut and put the insert in a supercase and Walla, copies as near as possible to the original. I am working on a short guide for proper settings with the Epson but have not finished or posted it yet.

Links just as examples of the above mentioned products and procedures. You can find the hardware and expendables all over the internet and in most computer stores.

  18. I personally wouldnt bother with CD/DVD labels... Overheating of the disc causes the glue to become loose, which could cause the actual label to get stuck in your machine. Ive seen it happen, and its not worth the potential headache. A good ole' sharpie or CD labeling pen does a perfect job.

Nice try, but "Surething" are not - they only do the full face labels which aren't an option (too much wastage by far).

Any other ideas / suggestions ?

Come on UK retailers, why are hub labels so difficult for you guys to source ?

  20. It seems this has all the good questions do you or don't you?
I have been printing these labels now for nearly 2 years back in the days of vcds and yet to have any problems so give it a go if you want to spend some money.

  21. For those of you looking for hub labels in europe look here http://www.neatoeurope.com/nt_products_EN.php?sgid=49&lang=EN

  22. i also say stay away from cd/DVD labels
they do have a tendancy to start peeling off at the edges and get stuck
or even pull off the silver coating too which makes the dvd unreadable

that sounds good with the printer will be checking that out
