  1. Hi,
I'hope someone can help me with this.

I have old Hi-8 movies and used a DVD-recorder (LG) to record the movies to DVD. Now, I have .VOB files and want to edit these files, add some pictures, sound etc.

I have ULead VideoStudio 7, but that program doesn't support .VOB
and I tried TMPGEnc DVD Author, that program does recognize the .VOB file and says AC3 sound, but sound disappears ....

As said, I just want to do some simple editing (cut, add multiple clips with effect) and burn to DVD without losing quality (the Hi-8 tapes are already not too good ...)

Hope someone can advise how to do this !

    thanks - matthijs

  2. I'm new to this myself, but if I have learned thing correctly so far, you will have to convert those VOB files to AVI to do any major editing. If you just want to clip scenes out, then you can do this with DVD shrink without converting.

  3. Thanks for your reply !
Doesn't that result in a loss of quality ?

Any suggestions which program to use ?

    thanks --

  4. Converting to AVI will result in some quality lose. But probably not something dramatic (don't know presonally). Clipping scenes using DVDshrink doesn't result in quality lose.

As far as conversion goes....haven't done it, so i can't recommend any program.

  5. mwink,

TMPGEnc DVD Author sometimes does recognize the VOB and sometimes it does not, or it recognize but it does not know where the Audio Track is. In the last 2 scenarios, you have to demux the VOB to separate video track & audio track and imported back to TMPGEnc DVD Author.

If TMPGEnc DVD Author does not recognize the AC3 audio track, then you have to convert the AC3 audio track to a recognizable one such as MP2. I usually use HeadAC3he for this task. With a demux video track as .MPV and a MP2 audio track, TMPGEnc DVD Author will always accept it.

By the way, I use IFOEdit to demux the VOB to separate tracks,

    Cheers,
