Hello,
I'm planning to purchase a new Dell to finally be able to do my own video capture/editing (I have previous experience editing in my University video lab). I'm deciding between the following 2 graphics cards:
128MB DDR GeForce FX 5200 (w/ TV-out and DVI)
128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 PRO (w/ TV-out and DVI)
The ATI card will cost an extra $130. I plan to capture digital using Firewire and capture analog using the canopus ADVC-100, so I don't need the video card for capture. So my question is, what impact does the video card have on capturing, editing, or outputting (to VHS through the ADVC-100 or DVD) video? I know CPU, RAM, and HD space are most important, but does the quality of video card have ANY affect at all???
Thanks for your help!
Tommy

Seeing that you are using the Canopus to capture, the GForce 5200 is well suited to handle the rest. You don't need to spend the extra$.

The only REAL difference is the quality of the cards ability to display in 2D mode (i.e. color reproduction, clarity, sharpness, etc) and of course feature set.
