    I have an ECS L7S7A2 motherboard and it has a Firewire port on it. How can I tell if it is active? Where would it show in Control Panel? I'm running WindowsME.

    Check your 'Device Manager'. It should show up as a 1394 device.

    Inside it should be wired to the motherboard. On my last pc it had extra firewire ports on the fron that were not wired up, took me forever to realise that they were not enabled.
