  1. Hey,

    I am questing for a good non-linear video editing program. I was looking to use Soft-disk's DDClip Pro, but after realizing that is doesn't not allow video transistions, I'm back to square one. I'm looking for an editor that...

    -> works on Windows ME
    -> $150 or less
    -> allows for keyframes on audio for adjusting volume and stereo panning
    -> has audio and video transistions
    -> will work with compressed and uncompressed AVI (I'm using an MJPEG capture card)

    DDClip does all that EXTREMELY WELL except it only does straight cuts -- no fading, dissolving, wipes, etc. I was at least hoping for fading and dissolving, but no cigar. Any recommendations? I would use the editor with my MJPEG card, but it's not that good. Thanks!

    Try Screenblast Movie Studio. It's a lite version of Vegas 4.0. I believe it will do everything you asked for; maybe not stereo panning, but it does have volume control. Only $99

    Hey MYoung,

    Check out Adobe Premiere (I use version 6.0, but there's a 6.5 and Premiere Pro - not sure about those). Brand new it's $700, but someone recently posted saying they could get 6.0 on eBay for $100.

    Good luck...

  4. I use Womble. Give it a try.

    Allows the insertion of transistions.

    okay, let's see...

    freeware, easily available:

    Zwei-Stein (clunky interface, though..)

    freeware, need to dig a bit:

    ABC VideoRoll
    AIST MovieXone

    ABCV was free, company is gone but .zip files are still out there, do a Google search. AIST MX has been upgraded to payware, but copies of the free version still lurk on the net.

    cheapware:

    Ulead Video Studio 5
    Magix Audio / Video Deluxe

    found both of these on the shelves of my local computer superstore in the "old software" aisle, for $10 each. I know that UVS5 shows up on eBay for around $10 pretty frequently.

    going higher, Vegas is an amazing program - not sure how stripped the light version is, but it probably packs a lot of bang for the buck.

    Also check out EditStudio (it should link to the tools section), about $150 with an Mpeg encoder (mpegXS) based on the MainConcept encoder.
